U-Boat destroyed by depth charges at 205 meters depth... of 5 escorts chasing me in Jan 43...
Was too optimist to attack this convoy when flat sea
Those escorts are damn good in NYGM, they drop DC where i will go...good anticipation… no other mod have escorts like this!

You need to go deeper. A lot deeper. Get down to 250 or so meters and get their fast, go at one knot and you'll escape.

Yes you are right … on other hand I’m trying to not cheat the game … I knew before this attack I should avoid it. The sea state was too flat! Very bad idea…

Actually iirc ace u-boat killer Donald Macintyre said asdic was not very effective in real calm seas so maybe don't consider it cheating the game.

He (and others too iirc) never used them as he considered them archaic technology. Grab a copy of his "U-Boat Killer" book. Interesting stuff.

That seems a little silly tbh. The Germans made tests with hydrophones to check a U-Boat's noise emissions. It turned out a commander giving his orders in normal speaking voice could be heard from 2 nautical miles away (under ideal conditions i suppose) oO

Well, his/their record speaks for itself.

Anyway… I always used to observe from external camera the escorts behavior (essentially for tests & screen shots purposes) and watch where and when they drop DC. Can tell you I never saw such smart behavior in any other megamod
I don’t know how Stiebler made this radical smart escort change.
It’s not the fact they know where you are after some pings (common to all megamods) but the anticipation of your path, dropping DC where you are AND where you are heading at same time !
On side note, I also had 5 (!) guys on my ass… others games always gave me 2 or 3…

Be sure to try his version of the late war Inshore Campaign too, good stuff ! And his books are must reads.

Hello Fifi
I am delighted with the roadmap that you have planned..
I confirm that there is a real atmosphere of attack..
I can tell you that destroyers are very intelligent...
my crew first spots a freighter from Denmark.. after being disappointed not to be able to shoot it down.. "funel smoke on the horizon" again I see two destroyers arriving by about 12 km I just took the time to watch for a few minutes.. when suddenly... they made the decision to go straight for me... the sea was choppy in 13ms clear weather around 4:00 p.m....
problem no bottom no more than 45 meters.. off the English coast... immediately I dive at maximum speed and try to get closer to the cargo ship so that its noise covers me. As well as his presence. Quickly reposition ready to attack.... These destroyers are coming straight at me....so he saw me from afar...immediately we behaved aggressively...I sank one....at the same now guess what...? the aviation that appears... they did not hesitate to attack me... even being not very far from the freighter. Then I avoid a few passes of grenades while suffering minor damage.. then.. I try to sink the last one... I have 2 torpedoes left then... an attack opening presents itself.. I attack... the first the torpedo went under the keel... the other one was worth it... he managed to avoid it... then he came back to make me pay for my mistake and I ended up at the bottom...
Thank you for your work where we feel a real adventure.. thank you for "SH3_jimimadrid_Torpedos" which works very well for the moment.. after some patrol is some preliminary test..
See you soon, Kal Maximus U669

Shallow water attacks are asking to be sunk, also fwiw, cargo ship noise doesn't cover one's boat/isn't modeled in SH3.
But it's still a good idea to use them for physical roadblocks against escorts.
