Default Classify

On the nav screen you need to classify the target, then you will see the contact available to assign a weapon to it.

Once you classify the contact you need to go back to your TMA and analise the target, get its bearing, speed and distance, once you have all that info then you have a preaty good idea where the target is and if you are shooting at the right thing, that mention you have then a good firing solution, but remember to manuver a little, or change speed or acent or decent to get a good TMA to fire, by the way make sure that you clsify the right target cause in this game you dont know if you are correct about the target unless you use cheating and after the mission is over so be carfull and patient before you shoot, hope this help.

Iirc you only need to classify it as land or surface/submerged target. (Maybe hostile/friendly distinction is also required, not sure) The torpedo fire control station doesn't care if it is an Akula or OH Perry. But it does need to know if the weapon must fly or not.
