SH1 and SHCE!

I see no difference between the Original Silent Hunter and Silent Hunter Commander's Edition!

There are both Excellent Simulations!

Silent Hunter Commander's Edition is the compilation of the original Silent Hunter and patrol disks (expansion packs) 1, 2, and 3. Patrol disk 3 adds two more patrol zones, Aleutian Islands and Java Sea. Fifteen additional historical scenarios are included.

I originally thought I had purchased the first SH, and bought all the patrol disk add-ons. Found out I had the SHCE version, lol. Hopefully It helped the developers to keep working on the newer versions of SH.
