Default Windows 8 gonna become a big fail?

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/h...indows-8/19027

Haven't tried it myself. But from the looks of Metro and what i read about it, I already hate it.

The essay reflects many of my own suspicions.

I find this surprising. One would assume that Microsoft has learned from the Vista disaster, but it seems they are going to fail even bigger this time. This is even more surprising when considering of what paramount importance W8 is for MS. MS could very well sell away its economic future here. The competition for typical office software is tough, there are free GNU alternatives for almost everything, and may people - although I cannot understand the reasonability in it - buy into this hype on cloud computing. MS simply cannot economically afford to suffer another Vista-scaled disaster with W8, I read over the past months repeatedly.

I for myself will certainly and most definitely stay with W7 for the next years to come. It does all that I want and need, and does it very well.

Windows 7 is too popular at the moment, it's nowhere near outlived it's lifespan. Windows 8 is just a knee-jerk nod towards tablets to keep M$ look like they're still 'with' the market. But they're not.

W7 FTW

It's the old good-bad-good cycle that Windows have been doing for a while now, I'll skip it until the next one which will basically be 8 but in a way that actually works.

I'm perfectly happy with Windows 3.1.

Agree, not going to be a 'pay them' beta tester.

I think the official term for what they (all of them) do is called 'Dynamic Programming'.

Windows 8 suffers the same problems 2000 & Vista did.
A stop gap piece of crap!
And how many problems did Windows 7 introduce along with a better platform for the most part?

If I can have a new OS without the learning curve?
It might be good. But MS just LOVES to screw you all up!!

I'll pass on Windows 8 until it's proven good.
I have my doubts.

Touch screen Windows 8 will be terrible for gamers who are having a rage at the punk running his aimbot hack to take you out from the other side of the map. Well at least monitor dealers will be making a killing.

Whether someting is a fail for a company or not has not much to do with reality, but with marketing and "hype", and sometimes with sheer extortion (remember MS against IBM's OS/2 back then? Also a better system.).
Windows has always been the lesser system, as had VHS against video 2000, but somehow they are in charge, and the others/better failed.

On the other hand Unix/Linux has a better implementation of security, and the properties and rights on viewing content or changing files are much more fine-grained, than even Windows server 2008 R2 is able to.

But also Apple is not made for a network solution, it has always provided single-place workstations, by Steve Jobs' own idea e.g. a graphics genius should sit in front of a big Apple workplace, and do his stuff. No real multi-user support in big networks, and teamworking. This was just not the focus of Apple, and MS is currentlly the biggest in just that.

Win8 has been made as an answer to Apple's ipad software, i cannot quite imagine people in companies sitting in front of 50" monitors and ridiculously moving their hands all over the screen to copy and paste some files - but for that purpose you can switch back your Win8 to normal mouse operation.

Greetings,
Catfish
