Default Hi all So I'm trying to get SH to run on dosbox on a year old HP pavilion laptop.

Right so I used to be on here quite a bit but what with life not allowing me sit in front a computer anymore(growing up and then graduating Highschool- the joys of youth :P)I've lost track of the pertinent details and any instant messaging addys I may have once had...

if anyone wouldn't mind walking me through dosbox set(or something else) set up to get sh to run that would ace. I'm not as good on reading instructions...if anyones got a bit of spare time, I'd to get it to run since I've had SH for a year and a half now but never got it to work.

Cheers
AP

It is very easy. DOSBox is definately the easiest way to get SH running on XP. The downside is that you need a fairly fast computer. If your laptop is one year old you shouldn't have problems with speed though.

Alright, so you got DOSBox installed, and SH on your hard drive. I would put the SH in a simple directory like C:\SH That way you do less typing in DOSBox.

Okay, so you open up DosBOX. First you have to increase the number of CPU cycles. I believe this adjusts the speed of the CPU DOSBox is emulating The defualt is set at 3000. Press Ctrl+F12 repeatedly to increase the number of CPU cycles. You should see the number increasing in the title bar. Set it to something over 10000. I tried 15000 and it worked great.

Okay now you have to mount the C drive to the SH directory. Type in:

mount c c:\sh

Then type in:

c:

Now you are in the c:\sh directory. Now type in:

sh.exe

And the game should start.

Alt+Enter makes it fullscreen. Once you quit the game you type exit to close DOSBox.

There are several nice Dosbox frontends out there. There are links to several on the Dosbox downloads page. The frontends make it really easy to configue things for individual games so you don't have to configure Dosbox each time you want to run something. I use DFend. I understand that it's no longer being worked on but I like that one. Supposedly there are others that are better than that one now.

Then you use the SSI and Silent Hunter paths instead of c:\SH, or you can simply move the folder. It doesn't matter where the folder is as long as you mount c to that folder.
