My "Search" technique definitely needs work, so I could not find the thread I wanted for this, where someone describes how to set-up your Steam Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific game, but there's this exchange from a different thread, concerning setting up the game correctly:

Set up Steam to put new games in a different directory. Then you'll have to reinstall SH4 (you DO have the U-Boat Missions version, don't you?) in a root directory. Mine is C:\Steam games.
Should be end of problem unless the mod isn't installed correctly. Keep us posted and we'll get you running!

If you're looking to "mod", there is no place better than here for that. Look around and read a lot. I mean A LOT! There is a lot to choose from, and all sorts of old heads that know a thing or two about sinkable, re-floatable boats and their workings. But you have to have the game set-up properly in order to get the Steam version to "mod" properly. There are mods on here for v1.4. You just have to look.

As for "Patches", if Steam sold you v1.4 SH4, the SH4 v1.5 with Uboat missions is extra money. If you have v1.3, the v1.4 "patch" is free via Ubisoft. It's probably also available here in the Downloads section. My son just bought about $90 worth of games on Steam for like $25. They're having some big sale this weekend, so if you want / need Uboat missions to go up to v1.5, see if it's "On Sale!" on Steam. There is no other way, other than purchase, to obtain v1.5. I got my recently purchased Gold Edition (Uboat Missions) DVD online for $10, which is about what Steam charges just for the Uboat add-on.

Welcome to the forum!

Edit: btw, just "searched" over there at Steam, and it is "On SALE!!" for $5 US this weekend... Keep a separate install of the "plain" v1.4, and do another install that you "patch" up to v1.5. The best of both worlds...
