Need a GPU How About Ati R9 290X

Hiya's,

Anyone running a R9 290X?? (or even xfired )

I've read about driver issues/niggles

How does one run sh5, and can all settings be maxed so to speak

Hoping to get one next weekend or following week

I haven't used ATI card for very long time but i can say for sure that this one is definitely overkill for SH5.
It should run happily latest and most demanding games so SH is is not much of an issue.

Hiya,

Well that's great to know

It will be a lone gpu for now in an old x58 mobo 17-920 @ 4.2 w/cooled 12gig ram, got 2x16 vid lanes though but obviously only usb 2 (excuse later on for new kb/mouse )

I know with what i've got i won't see the full potential, but gpu comes first then i'll get a good mobo/cpu bundle in a month or so

ps : i do like my arma's besides sh5, so thinking is get a good bang for buck now and later back to xfire

Thankyou

what resolution do you play at? if 1920x1080 then a 290x is overkill for pretty much anything out right now, nevermind crossfire. If you want good bang for buck pick up a 280x, with the recent price cut thsoe are a great deal and you can crossfire if you really feel you need e-peen.

Hiya,

I game at 1920x1200, i know i can easily game at a lower res with the 4890's but i love using the highest res i can

Hence for the small cost diff between the 'x' (uk i think the gap is down to 60-30ish sterling, for me it's a no brainer)

Thing is, as hardware comes out, the games get more demanding, i want something to last me a few years

Heck these bios flashed 4890's are around 5yrs old, ok i abuse them on the flashing/oc front but these have been great cards lol

Can run sh5 fine with no jaggies but it's the FX explosions that really kill these old cards (i work around that for the moment with different mods) also i rename the .exe to AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe and run cat on afr friendly option and get great fps increase

If the new gpu lasts as long as 3yrs running my games on high settings i'll be a happy bunny

I bet within that time, there will be games that call for even more gpu grunt

Can't stop progress hehe

Thanks
