Default HanSolos sub pens, apparently SHIV compatible

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160270

Created for SHIII, but they work in SH4 UBM too. This is an ideal add-on for all patrols that start from the sub pen, like for example Brest.

Didn't see any problems so far. Textures are fairly low res, so it still mostly looks like SHIII. And the sounds don't work either, but that's expected.

I don't think it will be difficult to insert higher resolution textures. Needs only a little work on Harbor_kit.dat with Silent Editor.

On second thought, it's not such a good idea to go on patrol with this. For the harbor_kit overwrites all the new stuff from SHIV My intention was only to demonstrate that the mod is working, and could be ported to SH4.

update: the new sounds are audible, if you rename Sh3.dhl to Sh.sdl

Cool. Definitely looking forward to this.

Hopefully something can be done about the lights, because currently lighting of the pens is not working in SHIV. But that's not a show stopper.

I also asked HanSolo about hires textures, there are are (only) four or five concrete textures that absolutely need to be replaced. Unfortunately he said that at this moment he cannot provide higher resolutions.

But what the heck, out of curiosity I covered one concrete wall with a new texture, and although it is not particularly beautiful it already looks a lot better (in my opinion). Currently Hansolos subpens uses 1024x1024 for the concrete which could be replaced with a 2048x2048 version, and this already makes a difference. This only as a reminder to all people who try this mod and wonder about the SHIII-like look of the pen: I think with small changes to the textures it will look great.

There's a vast archive of free textures available here, including many varieties of concrete, brickwork and metal.

Those are indeed excellent textures, and the license is rather permissive.

for example look at those bunker walls:

One of the things I've been missing is the extras. I'm looking forward to this one.
