AVAST Mates_Nearly the end all ! NEWS

Avast 4.8 >http://www.avast.com/eng/what-is-new-in-avast-4-8.html

I just got rid of a Spript Worm, took me two weeks repairing a sys.recovery to get formatted again. Really looking forward to new FOTRS. Installed AVAST 4.8

Recomended: I got rid of Adaware-Spybot-& -McAfee/Norton. Copy,& paste link-Let me know what you-all think Please ! Donut

Anti-spyware built-in

Certified by West Coast Labs Checkmark certification process, avast! antivirus 4.8 now comes with anti-spyware capability built in to the scan engine.
avast! antivirus 4.8 now offers even more protection for your valuable data and programs, all in one download.
Anti-rootkit built-in

Another key feature of avast! antivirus 4.8 is the inclusion of anti-rootkit technology, based upon the class-leading GMER technology, and now built-in to the scan engine as standard.
Rootkits are programs that install on your system, while keeping themselves, their processes, services and registry keys hidden, to stay invisible. They represent a substantial security risk on home and company networks and standalone machines, and are usually notoriously difficult to find and remove.
avast! antivirus 4.8 has full live-system anti-rootkit protection. No boot disks required, it's all built-in and working with one install.
Strong self-protection

A significant security feature has also been added to avast! itself. avast! antivirus 4.8 now includes strong self-protection, to prevent malware from turning avast! protection off.
This key enhacement helps to add that extra layer of protection to protecting your data and programs with the multi-award winning avast! antivirus technology.

I have it and it is very good and unintrusive.

I jacked ZoneAlarm and got this. I use the XP firewall as I only visit a few sites and shut most of my ports.....

We use AVG Free Edition on our computers here in the house. So far it we never had any problems.

But, yea. Avast sounds interesting.

This is good to know some AV options 'cause IIRC update support for AVG7.5 ends at the end of the year. I've tried AVG8 but it uses considerably more sys resources.

Please feel free to take advantage of our try before you buy offer. Most of our downloads work for sixty days from the first installation even without providing a serial number.
Thats all that it says on the download page.

I am personally partial to what used to be known as AVP (AntiVirus toolkit Pro) - its know known as Kaspersky Antivirus. However - its NOT free.

It is however very low in resource requirements - has a better capture rate than any other sftw on the market, has HOURLY updates (24/7) for new viruses (if you want it to update that often) and yes that means they release new definitions hourly. On average - a new threat is neutralized within 3 hours. In addition, its very customizable, rootkit and spyware effective, can do thread behavior monitoring and keeps an eye on registry edits as well.

Overall - its a really nice package. But like norton your doing a yearly subscription.

I have a machine I will try avast on - see what I think. Thanks for the heads up on it.

Uses avast! free. Guess it is better than AVG or Avira (though some people may have different view towards this)

I guess the best defense against virus is to stay alert and be cautious, rather than a good AV software. Of course, a good AV software is necessary, but being cautious is far more important.

Avast! is updated often and I think it is not a stripped down version of commercial counterparts

I just leave spybot and Ad aware here. They won't use much resources anyway
