Default USS Holland - micro sim

Here's a new tiny sim that is hopefully to the beta test stage:

http://sub-log.com/games/buoyancy

It's a simple 2D Flash game that models the three ballast tanks of the USS Holland. Probably about a minute of gameplay at the moment. ;-)

I'd appreciate any comments and ideas!

thanks-
Paul

Fun little game . Will volts eventually matter? How?

Thanks for the comments. I don't know about the batteries. On one hand it is tempting to hookup the main motor but that would add a bunch of complexity in allowing the boat to move horizontally.

I'll probably just add some little fun tweaks to this one and then maybe build another version with background scrolling and main propulsion and all. Hopefully I can build an X-Boat game sometime to let you play out the attack on the Tirpitz. I was always interested in that story.

thanks-
Paul

looks great... this level of control as far as ballasting and deballasting the sub adds so much more than simply hitting the Dive key...

yep... it does get a bit more complex... horizontal motion as well and the deck angle, and how it affects the ultimate depth, as well...

great start... i could see this turning into a decent lil sim

or a decent big sim for that matter...

Sweet.

I was able to hover with 70% aft 76% main 70% fore, and using no HP Air just the pumps.

This is great!

When you restart PSI is left at the same level as when you finished the previous game.

I like it though.

Another problems (This is related to my "hovering") once you touch the bottom your score will not stop counting the next time you bottom the boat. Thats why I thought I was hovering.

Thanks for the kind comments and for finding two bugs today! I'm not properly resetting everything when you hit start.

Yeah, my hope was to make a tiny game that gave more of a feel for sinking and buoyancy than I saw with any existing sub sim. I realize my big problem with it now is that there's just not much gameplay here. But thanks for looking.

cool game
it would be much better if the propeller would work too.

Top score 16097... But the score counter in the bottom corner needs at least one more digit.

And shouldn't triming affect your buoyancy, if you're pumping to sea?

Hi Etienne, thanks for the note. I think the sim is hooked up to pump trim water into the main ballast tank so that it usually doesn't affect buoyancy. If main ballast is full then the trim tanks pump overboard. I just checked the piping diagram (some links below) and it looks like it's possible to pump the trim water a few different ways: between fore and aft trim tanks, straight overboard, and into main ballast. What do you think?

Holland website:
http://www.geocities.com/gwmccue/
choose Holland VI Systems - Water

The website has frames so here's the exact page:
http://www.geocities.com/gwmccue/Sys...ast_Water.html

But I haven't updated this Holland sim for a while, working recently on submarine wreck maps, but I'm thinking of using this little game as a base for an X-Craft midget sub game. It'd be great to add propulsion, a scrolling background of the Norwegian fjords, and then add in German patrol craft and some big targets to sink with saddle charges. :-) Lots of work though.

I really like it! Any chance you can find the time to update it?

Anyone know of any other sub games where you have direct control like this?

Went long time out of the window operated only with the instruments. But took me to long and i gaved up.

But great little sim which shows how interesting operating can be when simulated properly. This confirms my own developement approach.
