SUBSIM mobile phone thread

Post your cell/mobile here. What are you using, what do you like/dislike about it?

I have been using a super cheap Go Phone from Wal-mart for about 2 years, because my last nice phone was drowned on a motorcycle ride. So, I grabbed a $15 phone from Wal-mart and put my chip in it.

Since I am going to the wilds of Denmark next week, I decided to move up to e better phone, one that will work world-wide, has a decent camera, and storage. I chose the Samsung Solstice.

It is very thin and small, so I can carry it in a pocket, as opposed to a belt clip or holster. It has a 2MP camera, takes video, can be expanded to 8GB with a micro-SD chip. The only cons so far is removing the battery cover--definitely not easy, and knowing I am carrying an expensive phone as opposed to my previous "disposable" one means I actually have to take care of it. It was nice not having to worry about it. I guess I'll get used to that.

HTC Touch Pro 2

Why? Cos I manage the company mobile accounts and contracts, so I get all the best deals.

Likes:
So easy to use, fast, manageable and customisable.
Live GPS

Dislikes:
Expensive (don't care though)
Screen can get marked by the stylus over time.

Nice phones! =) I love the HTC's. Probly gonna stick with one of the newer ones when we get a new contract in a couple of month. Well depending on the phone price that is.

I have the Samsung Ace that is international capable. I see the Mogal posted by Thomen. We had two in the office. Both broke in under a year. Then again both users of the phone were very rough with them. These phones were not international capable. I like the ACE. Very similar to the Blackberry. To me the cell is a work phone and should be a business like phone. The new touch phones look more like a gadget to me. I see my nephew playing games on it all day and downloading pictures he does not need to be seeing. Anyway, mobile 6.1 is an ok program. I understand Blackberry's program is very good.

Got mine for almost 2 years now. No problems whatsoever, except, as you noted they are not GSM capable.. which sucks royaly when we fly to Germany and can't use our phones there..

Although on maps they look as if they are the same, roads and rivers drive very differently, Neal. Use blue glasses to filter rivers out when planning your next tour.

I use the LG enV Touch.

I love some things about it: the expandable memory, the 3.5mm headphone jack, the full keyboard, its ability to play youtube videos (and almost any video format for that matter). And the touch screen is nice and looks very crisp and classy.

The software is iffy at best though. It resets my screen settings every once in a while, opens to a completely black screen or one with different colored bars all over it.

Other than those shortcomings, I like it a lot.

Time to dig this one up

A small update here, as I got myself a Samsung Galaxy S:

Coming from a Nokia phone I can now easily see why Nokia, Apple and RIM are all losing the smartphone market to Android-based phones.

Yea I changed my phone too

Nokia E72 . . . . because I hated Blackberry fever but wanted a smartphone. I was eyeing the E52 which is small and looked smart but settled for E72 because I read so many complaints on E52 and the closest phone with on par performance(especially that noise canceling feature which I thought kind of neat) was the E72 though it cost quite a lot more. . . .I still think E52 is the value for money.

When I had time to fiddle with a Blackberry I changed my mind about it being an overpriced and over hyped product. The interface is really easy to use compared to my Nokia and seemed to run noticeably smoother or faster too. Yea Blackberry isn't that bad.

As for Android maybe for my next phone few years from now when the soft is fully matured and well upgraded. Not saying it isn't now but the more you wait the more you get when dealing with software or gadget for that matter :-)

Edit: I must say that Nokia is plagued with build quality problem, unstable PC software and seemingly some serious problems in some of their phones as well some tarnished reputation in their customer service department at least in here for the past several years now. It has grown too fat and too complacent. When I learned later that NOKIA was firing its executives I must say good riddance!

Switched last week to a HTC Legend. Vodafone Netherlands have given me a half-decent contract.

So far, very impressed. The only problem is the battery life, if I'm using it heavily, lots of intertubes, gps, etc, it's a charge-a-day device. This is easily solved through ebay, a few extra batteries and a multiple charger. One battery in my jacket, another in my locker at work, etc etc
