Default The last mission

Hi SubGuru.

The last mission of the campaign is great. I really like the sense of large scale battle that it creates and sometimes I like to turn on truth and just watch the battle unfold to see what happens.

One thing I've noticed is that the CV fighter/interceptors don't behave right. Its probably more a doctrine level problem (nothing to do with the mission) but its kindof obvious that the F14/F18 are leaving the surface fleets high and dry and unprotected against enemy fighters (my battles usually have the fighter escorts loitering aimlessly on the opposite side of the CV no help at all for the Ampibs trying to land.

Perhaps some scripting of a fighter intercept attempts (creating a fighter wing to spawn and intercept the Badgers/Backfires etc. Would help?

On a side note: I'm going to attempt to change some doctrines to get these fighters to behave better.

Yes, I've been disappointed in the AI of the aircraft in DW. For example, Backfires and Badgers try to launch anti-ship missiles through mountains -> SPLAT. (That's why I have the Backfires appearing so close to the surface ships in this scenario).

So would it be possible to fix those weird behavior for the A/C?
Is there any get around it so that it looks good in the mean time?

Yeah, I've noticed how the Backfire cruise missiles hit the side of the terrain a lot... no real other way to get around this that I can think of either...however...:hmm: ... I do remember reading that alot of the Soviet Supersonic cruise missiles were high altitude flyers (though I can't remember where I read it for the life of me)... perhaps if some of those missiles were given high altitude instead of sea-skimming behavior it would be less accident prone (less terain problems) though I'm not so sure if its representative to RL.

On a side note, some attempts to improve the AI fighter behavior with some doctrine changes looks pretty good, especially the F14 with their phonex missiles now launching them at long range more promptly. Still need alot of work and still a work in progress though.

Most of this has nothing to do with the mission design I know, more doctrine level stuff. Just thought I'ld share, since the last mission is a perfect testing ground for a lot of AI behavior testing.

yes they are definately High diver.
I mentioned that couple of weeks ago to Luftwolf.

That would help as well in the stock scenario of North Atlantic Convoy.?
Yes it is real life. The AS-4 is a Super High diver missile.

They should be launching it from a good distance and at high altittude so we are able to detect it early and have a chance to have a lock....maybe.

I am oretty sure that in Fleet command with the NWS Mod they have at least 3 or four different flight profile for missile. I am sure that can be done as well for DW. But I am not the expert on this..

Got any good links on Soviet missile stats? There's not much about altitude behavior on GlobalSecurity. I'm going to try to model this a bit, perhaps with the same doctrine, but with a "setaltitude" of 2000ft instead of 500. Not sure which other missiles show this behavior though.
