Default pirates! crew morale?

ok im confused---sid's pirates ---is there any method of improving the crews morale once it's dropped--once i get the frowning morale face indicator nothing i do ever changes the morale---even after finding two buried treasures capturing two named pirates (huge amounts of gold) the daft apeths are still on the verge of mutiny stopping me to demand i divvy up the gold every few minutes --nothing seems to cheer them once theyre down--only thing i'm able to do is divide the booty and start again with fresh crew--which means i lose 6 months etc and can never get a sizable enough crew going to really cause mayhem--

i found henry morgans treasure (with the crew morale at rock bottom) 10000 pieces of gold---no difference what soever - i returned to the ship and immediately got the demand for the booty to be divvied up

surely this isn't working as it should

CB, it happened to me the first time I played it too. I was doing
fine at first (good crew) but as time went on (was making $ too)
the crew got more & more unhappy. I think I read somewhere
this was based on time in the code but not sure about it. I have
been trying to find some mod or fix that can change it before I
play the game again.....

yes it's pretty annoying as it's a very critical part of the gameplay--(everything depends on it virtually--so it's a huge problem)

http://www.addictedtopirates.com

EDIT

AHHHAA as the saying goes!!!

it seems to improve crew morale what is needed is at least 1000 gold pieces per crew member recruited--once you have this balance the crew start smiling again---

double EDIT!

nope it don't work

:hmm: :hmm:

this is the best i can come up with at the mo'

when the crew get fed up- instead of being forced to divide the plunder wasting 6-11 months--

allow you self to be defeated after boarding a vessel
get marooned **with your sigaling mirror or flare--**
immediately get picked up by a passing ship
instant new ship and happy crew--
no waitng time at all-

takes less time to re-equip the new ship
and you gold total remains on your history/status board just as if you'd divded up the plunder

you even seem to keep your specailists (which doesn't actually make sense but--)

i get the feeling the crew morale problem is in fact the key strategic element in the game long term--which is why finding ways round it is a major element of the gameplay??

dunno ?but the game doesn't really work well with pernamently happy crew--tried it using the trainers available on the pirates site

i think it is deliberately strange--as once un happy best i've ever managed to get them to be is content briefly--folks say get 1000 gold per crew and they'll cheer up-- but it rarely actually has any effect at all even 60,000 gold with 10 crew doesn't change morale--so it's a mystery

Just like I subjected the SH3 crew to 0 fatigue and got down to
the business of sinking ships, I think the unhappyness should
be reduced to a very low level and go back & forth as the loot
increases, thus letting you continue pirating for a year or two
before dividing the plunder....

JIM

PS. Now if "Pirates" were programmed like "SH3" was, it could be
modded to reflect these values

i agree---you should at least be able to "pay them off" and recruit new crew members to replace them and get happy crew that way---still it's a fairly light hearted game with good graphics dynamic campaign (more or less) and it does make a change from playing a more seriuos simulation from time to time--

LOL if i come up with any-thing i'lllet you know!!

EDIT--

sticking with a sloop and minimal crew (20 to 40)
has given some results regarding improving crew morale---this figure of 1000 gold pieces per crew member for good morale isn't enough -in effect you really need to have more than 5000+ per crew member-and be prepared to reduce the crew numbers thru battles etc--
best i can do so far- but have managed to reach the age of 35 without dividing up the plunder and have been able to boost the morale when it has dropped by "killing" off the crew in battle---once happy again-recruiting or picking up more crew (from the water) they joina happy crew not a unhappy one and this allows you to increase the number again--

bit precariuos--

Well, mid Dec. and I haven't played it yet till they get it fixed.
I have observed one other thing. If you fight good, you can
get by with low crew members & still rake in the $$$ by taking
ships, selling them and the supplies. Better to NOT fight any
other pirates with low crew cause they may defeat you...

It was the same in the Pirates Gold game I had for the Amiga CD32. Perhaps because of that I was able to complete this one on my first attempt.

You're on a very limited time frame, as you know. Once the crew get so unhappy that no matter what you do pleases them then divide the plunder. Then start afresh and don't mess about, ever!

That's the reason I only played it once. You can't cruise and enjoy yourself.
