Why the panic? Linux is save. We all are happy. Simply do not surf on infested sites.

BUMP.

That is meant serious. It is the summary of replies I got one week ago on the biggest German forum site for Linux Mint when i was stupid enough to dare asking for security programs helping to avoid the cross-spreading of Windows-malware via transport through Linux servers. I still feel lucky and deeply thankful that I managed to get away in one piece: uncrucified, unshot, unpoisoned, unhung and unstabbed. Though they tried.

"We are Linux. Worries are futile."

Meanwhile, in another corner of reality:

Not sure this moment whether I posted these links in the other thread already, or not.

What is true for weapons, is true for security measures as well: its better to have one in the backhand and not needing it, than to find out one needs it - but doe sn ot have it. - When I suggested that, they started to attack me personally, and even followed me into two other threads on completely different things. Strange people. Serious problems with their self-esteem, my internal psychologist thinks. People defining their egos over their computer's OS - what do you expect...

Well, this "oppinion" in that community might change, when companies and/or individuals start legal actions against the responsible web-server administrators that knowingly refused to secure their service, accepting the possible damage to other IT systems?
There is a reason why personal insurances added "cyberdamage" to the liabilities they would pay for, as long as you take all reasonable measures to ensure system safety...
"My Linux webserver is safe and I don't care about the damage to others" does not work in mist western countries, as far as I know.

Absolutely true. Those who don't have a problem (or just claim that) are asking for real problems. There's nothing about Linux that makes it immune from social engineering, Java based, Flash based or HTML based attacks. And no computer can defend itself against its own user. These people are their own virus.

Notice you don't hear from the "Apple is safe" crowd much any more. IOS is very close to Linux in its operation.
