Default WWII Japanese submarines: Regular & midget

Hello submarine pimps and pimpettes!

I HAVE found two books on WWII Japanese Navy submarines.

BTW, NO it's NOT the Osprey 48 pager coming out in June!

-Naval Institute Press published = The Japanese submarine force and WWII
It's still in print via Amazon.com and N.I.P, I think, under their blue ribbon or blue title book listings or some crap like that!

-Conway Maritime Press = Submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy
This second text is Out of print & VERY RARE kids and expensive.
One version came out in 1986 and the listed 2nd edition on Amazon.com in 1992.
I've only found the 1986 editions though, at big bucks at that too.
This second text cover regular Jap. subs and midget subs of WWII also!

hellas1- Yes...I love subbies!

:rotfl:

Also, a good first-person account of Japanese submarine operations can be found in I-Boat Captain by Zenji Orita. At least I thought it was good.:hmm:

Default I-Boat Captain Reviews

I only see three reviews on Amazon, and all three readers liked it (4/5 rating each). However, it is possible that you wouldn't like it - everyone has their own taste in war books, after all.

Default Regarding previous post

Hi,

No, if you read the description of the book it's not a tactical and/or technical book.

It's a submarine biography.

My initial post refers to tactical and technical books only, sorry for my NOT expressing this.

Default Japanese Sub Books

@ Zaza - Unfortunately, I cannot read Japanese. So I guess I'll have to stick to English-language books, although those do look very interesting.

@ hellas1 - I don't really understand your response, as you pointed out that a reviewer didn't like it, not that it wasn't the kind of book that you were looking for. This response doesn't address your earlier point, nor my response to it which are as follows:

Well, since I did read I-Boat Captain as I stated (I wouldn't recommend it if I didn't read it beforehand), I do know what it is about.:hmm: But if I had known that you were not interested in first-person accounts (the book is an auto-biography and not a biography, btw) I would not have suggested it. Sorry to hijack your thread, although it was inadvertent - maybe someone else would be interested in the book though.
