Default World War One episode (4 parts) online - A History Of Submarines

Ahoy!

The A History Of Submarines podcast is slicing through the dark waves like a warm knife through soft butter. I thought you might be interested in the new episode on World War One, cut into 4 parts for your convenience.

Was it really the Germans who came up with the idea of unrestricted submarine warfare against commerce? Or had they just read the opinion pages of British newspapers before the war?

Why did the Reichsmarine commit to unrestricted naval warfare in 1915? And why did they stop, only to restart, then stop, and then go all out again?

When was the first sub on sub kill?

We know all about World War II, but who still holds the highest numbers of kills of all time?

The legendary captain Von Trapp is known for his singing family but what else is the man known, for as member of the Austro-Hungarian navy?

What was the 'lance bomb' and why did the British come up with this ridiculous idea?

How was it possible that the Germans raked up so many merchant kills in 1917, during their last, desperate and all-out attempt at unrestricted marine warfare?

Why was the first US admiral to visit London after the US and the UK became allies so shocked when he left the first face to face meeting with his British counterparts?

And why were the experiences and events of 1918 a prelude to the inevitable defeat of the Kriegsmarine's U-boats in World War II?

All these questions, and more, are answered in the four parts.
