Default DAMBUSTERS by Peter Jackson

Hi All,

Not sure if it's been reported, but just came across this:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems...9/s1730939.htm

Quote:
Jackson announces re-make of 'The Dam Busters'
By New Zealand correspondent Peter Lewis

New Zealand's Academy-award winning director, Peter Jackson, is going back-to-the-future for his next major movie project.

It is a re-make of the 1954 British black and white classic, The Dam Busters.

Jackson got his start in the movie business making horror films before focussing on the classics, his Oscar-winning trilogy, Lord of the Rings, followed up by a re-make of King Kong.

Now he has set his sights on retelling the story of Barnes Wallis, who developed the bouncing bombs, and Wing Commander Guy Gibson and the crews of the RAF's 617 squadron, who dropped them onto German dams with such devastating effect in World War II.

Jackson says the re-make will be as close to the spirit of the original as possible and filming will begin next year.

He will produce, while his protege, Christian Rivers, will direct after winning a special effects Oscar for King Kong.

Meantime, figures show the film industry now rivals horticulture and forestry in its contribution to the New Zealand economy, last year generating revenue of $2.2 billion.

What's your problem, Steed? Everybody knows that the guys who stole U-571 later took a top-secret experimental nuclear sub up the Ruhr River and used the first submarine-borne missiles to blow up the dams.

Why would it be a bad film? Surely you can't put Jackson on the same level as U-571.

Well I hope it turns out OK as the original film is still good to watch and I would hate for it to be sullied in any way

The big question is if they are going to use the 617 mascot's name in the movie. The dog was killed just before the mission, and Gibson decided to use it as the code word for a successful mission.

Peter Jackson has already stated that he knows that there is pressure from both sides, One to keep it realistic, the other to keep it political correct.

I hope they do use ****** as the code word, otherwise it isn't being true to history. I hope all remember it is just the name of a black labrador, not a rasist comment

I believe he's going to keep it true to what happened. Now just pray he sticks to his guns when some loony demands it changed.

He better hope and pray Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't get wind of this...they'll start a "vigil" outside the set.

some how some where there'll be an american who "really" planned it all...either that or they'll be flying "liberators" ...or the eagles will magicaly appear and save the day or summat..sheesh..

and remember the immortal words...
"ah shazbe gah ganmuflefuhan"
"righto skip"
"ah shum dakhemunfdundle....bahstuffle"
"righto skip"
"ahshufflebum"
"szzzkkkkkkk"
"sksksks..righto skip"
:rotfl:

the americans can't "do" English war films...they have absolutley no idea what the phrase "stiff upper lip" means...take a look at all the british characters that crop up in most recent american series ...from Lost to Enterprise..Batlestar Galactica etc etc...they haven't got a clue what to make of us...it'll be cringe-worthy to the point of delirium

Kind of an odd career choice, given the niche audience most war films generate. Of course, he has the $$ now do do whatever he wants now.
