Thanks Jimbuna for the direct route to the "promised land"; I immediately literally Googled: "helicopters similar to Seibel S4 skyhawk" and the first one up was the Cessna CH 1 Skyhook! I'll have something shortly after I detach from my post-TIA apnea home test kit.

Yes, this is the Kola borehole. The plug has deteriorated since last time i saw this.. usually you fill an abandoned borehole to prevent rising gases or fluids to poison the layers bearing phreatic water and so on. But maybe they planned to make future researches with probes.. the surroundings do not look like it though.
Still, this i the deepest hole ever drilled by mankind, and it was Russia that did it.
