Default SH4 players? I’m new to these boards. Have need of advice.

Former SH3 player ( comp. crashed HD fried no recovery possible). just installed and been playing SH4 for a month or so on a resurrected box w/ Win 7 w/ 2g proc. + 2gig ram ( min. requirements).

No mods, no add on uboat pac.

No issues running game, have modified graphic settings to run pretty smoothly.

Been playing around with the editor and someone on these forums mentioned that you could modify the renown in a pdf file.

Have edited the renown in the sun school missions and successfully modified these missions, but have no clue as to when the renown would appear in a career.

Would it be before using any renown in a new career to improve the crew or sub?
Or before the first patrol or what?
Do you have to pass all the sub school missions first to receive the renown?

A couple things I have learned about the sub is that you can ground on the bottom at shallow depths without damage if doing less than 1kt and in a controlled decent ( 2-3 meters at a time).
This is useful in spy missions where you have to come to a full stop and be submerged prior to surfacing and releasing the raft. As well as waiting out patrolling craft in the vicinity and waiting for nightfall to surface unobserved.

In shallow water one may take a Gato class sub in at 16.5 meters depth to avoid grounding, yet still be fully submersed.
( your closed scope is barely below the surface).

3.5 kts seems to be the most efficient submersed speed (where batt power and CO2 will be maxed out at about the same time), and gives the furthest amount of distance traveled.

10.5 kts surfaced seems to be the most efficient cruising speed.

( Gato/ Tambor class - have not played with other subs yet)

Have noticed in the campaign files that the stoc .mis files ( naval bases and other underlying supporting .mis files that are merged into missions have many flaws when validating them.

I have read of many bugs and such like missions not being recorded and refits not including torps or ammo. Perhaps these flaws I. The validation of these files have something to do with this?

Not being a dummy, I’ve saved all the stock data files in advance of any editing so I’ll find out eventually. 😆 But was wondering if anyone could lend me a clue to save me some time mucking about blindly.

Thanks!

Eric
