Default Masking tape etc

What masking tape or other masking materials do you use? I've been using regular painter's tape, but I get paint bleeding under the mask. I know there are other products out there, but what do people like?

Most hobby shops carry finer tapes for modelling work, but I usually paint parts separatly before mounting them. For camouflage and such the only thing for me is the airbrush.

Liquid mask that is brushed on works great, and it's easy to remove.

I gave up on masking tape. It is TOTALLY WORTHLESS when painting a room now a days- Latex or Oil based paint. It is so thin and worthless. I use the 3M blue colored painters tape. In the last week I repainted my outdoor Gas light. On top is a Gold Eagle. Wrapped it up in 3M painters tape, painted the gas light pole black spray paint, NO BLEED THROUGH. I realize you are talking about a model, but it goes beyond that.

In fact I have REVERSED the process of how I paint a room. Paint the walls first now. Then I wait 24 hours. Then I use the 3m Blue painters tape on the walls and create "straight line" where the ceiling and walls meet. I then protect the walls from the drips - and then coat the ceiling with 2 coats of "Ceiling White". Then I wait 12 hours. Then I pull off the blue 3M painters tape off VERY slowly. Comes out PERFECT every time.

Look at THESE folders used it in two rooms in the last 6 months:

2008-01 Laundry Project

2008-02 Family Room Project

If you are into furniture restoration, it is a LIFE SAVER not to have "bleed though" mistakes when stipping or putting on the new stain/finish ----

Best suggestion of all for models. I'd forgotten it even existed. Good call!

For soft edge camo i use the Blue Tac. Its superb in getting the nice blending of colors.
For hard edge i use the various tapes with Tamiya tape just edging it.
Maskol is just as good for tricky places like the aircraft canopies.
