I use PC Tools Anti-spyware with Virus scanner..available from pctools.com. It also come with a registry scanner. I like this better than the glitzy Norton product I had.

Cheers!

I have used Avira for almost 2 years now and still the best IMO, also still free for private use.

After cure; registry connections to operating program files, may be destroyed. Shortcuts not working. This depends on what virus attacks. Without registry back-up,your only choice is reformat/reinstall.
Now I use AVG. on one computer, & Avast on the other. AVG offers a free download working program. Before reformatting I downloaded entire "C"drive to external HD. so I could save that which was left. You may have to reformat from the operating sys.up,wipe entire "C"drive. I had an unbelievable goat.

COMODO does the same thing to me. Won't tell me what the infection is, just starts quarantining legit files.

hi,

Avira or AVG are excellent free virus scanners - i put them on friend's pcs when doing repairs for them and i've had no complaints.

Regards

I've found malwarebytes to be pretty nifty at finding real good hidden stuff

This is the best free proggy so far.

The best program bar none is still NOD32 though, but this requires a subscription.

It's all in how you set it up. I've never had that problem.

Format C:

Get's rid of every virus known to man.

Personally use Avast, and Comodo Firewall Plus when on XP (doesn't work on Win7). Never any infections.
