Well, I just got thru trying to install SHCE on my machine and got nowhere. I can't see how that proceedure is of any use for installing on Win. Vista. The command prompts he talks about are not even recognized by Vista. In his proceedure he mentions he originally installed it using XP and copied it over to Vista on a machine with a triple boot set-up. I'm guessing this is why I can't duplicate his proceedure.[/quote] This page? http://www.subsowespac.org/the-patro...a-dosbox.shtml Quote:
I think you can cheat a little and make the C:\GAMES, and after the install to \GAMES\SILENT, BUD folder inside C:\GAMES\SILENT\ C:\GAMES\SILENT\BUD using Windows Explorer if you don't know DOS make directory (folder) commands. The Silent Hunter CD installer wants to install to SILENT ... you just need to change that to: \GAMES\SILENT on your C:\ drive Also, you can use two Explorer windows to copy all the movies from the BUD folder on the CD to your BUD folder you created on your HD inside C:\GAMES\SILENT\ - - C:\GAMES\SILENT\BUD <--- BUD folder movies from the CD go in here... after you install the game to C:\GAMES\SILENT\ This is the easiest install he has written and covers all three OS's. DOSBox ver 0.74 must be a good version if he used it successfully for XP rather than the lengthy Don Wells procedure. Bravo to DOSBox! ...and a big thank you to Ed for writing that page. Happy Hunting! Art PS: I'll be doing this to my Win 7 machine. I just finished installing SH II Pacific Aces - no problem - and very nice to see again!

That is the proceedure I attemped. Quote:
I can't do this because I don't have Win. XP. Since I've never really had to use the command prompt business before, I have no idea what the proper commands are. The ones he gives don't work on my set up. |

I can't <--- He said, "I can't" !!! :)
I don't want to see, "I can't" sailor!!! :)
--------------- Essential DOS Commands and Concepts http://www.colorado.edu/geography/gc...s/doshelp.html (for some introductory information) - you don't have to look at it but you can. However, I would go to Start --> Computer ---> OS (C:) which is C:\ From C: you can see all your folders in the C: drive going down the right side in Details view. Also make a mental note what your CD drive is called - like, D: or E: etc Click New Folder on your C: drive and make a New Folder called GAMES Now go to Start ---> All Programs ---> Accessories and look for Command Prompt. Click Command Prompt. A black window should open up with a DOS prompt. It should say C:\Users\yourname>_ <-- with a blinking _ Type cd\ and hit Enter Should now show C:\>_ <-- with the blinking line. Now Type the letter name of your CD Drive. Mine is E: Lets say yours is too. C:\>_ so on the blinking line type E: and hit Enter E:\>_ You want to type: E:\>Install c: and hit Enter. (be sure to include the colon c: <--- The game will ask you where. It wants to install to C:\SILENT You want to install it to C:\GAMES\SILENT So, 1. Hard Drive should say C: 2. Directory should be \GAMES\SILENT - you have to type in GAMES before SILENT. It says \SILENT you add \GAMES in front of \SILENT \GAMES\SILENT <--- This Click the Start (Enter) button. Watch it install There it is. Now do the DOSBox stuff........ :)
