The United States gave the aircraft the name Baka (Japanese for "fool" or "idiot")[2].
It was a manned flying bomb that was usually carried underneath a Mitsubishi G4M "Betty", or Yokosuka P1Y Ginga "Frances" (guided Type 22) bombers to within range of its target; on release, the pilot would first glide towards the target and when close enough he would fire the Ohka's rocket engine and guide the missile towards the ship that he intended to destroy. The final approach was almost unstoppable because the aircraft gained tremendous speed.
They didn't get a lot of use as they were deployed late in the war.

very nice peabody, will these attack ships or just going to be ey candy? nice work.

Did you get homing torpedos from US ASW planes to work? Remember seeing posts about it a while back.

Yes they will be attacking ships.

No, we never got the homing torpedoes from planes working properly. We had one of the 'experts' telling us he tried it too and couldn't get it working right. But regular torpedoes do work.

IJN Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka

Teasers as requested:

Seconds from impact:

Impact explosion:

I just realized I forgot to put the 'cherry blossom' on the front of the Ohka. Will fix it. The pilot in pic 2 is a bit off center, that has been fixed. The periscope pics were taken at about 2050 meters.

Interesting... I thought you had them set up as bombs, but the CV looks like it's firing at it? Anyway, you can't fool us with those photoshopped images. Nothing as awesome as that could ever be modded in .

Seriously Nisgeis, I had to mod it, I'm worse at photoshop than I am at modding.

@Nisgeis, Sergei: Thanks for the encouragement! I am learning, slow going, but I'm getting there.

Just put a new "flame" on it, didn't like what I had and don't know a lot about the particles.dat and materials.dat.

Still need to put the cherry blossom on the front.

Looks great! Can they be shot down though? I've got some pictures of one I took at the Fleet Air Arm museum, if that would help?

No, they can't be shot down. You were right they are actually bombs. The shooting is aimed at the bomber that dropped them, which is how they were dropped in real life. And was also commented on that that was the weak link, the bombers were easy targets.
Although I didn't increase the drop speed, the real Ohka was almost impossible to shoot down anyway since once it hit the rocket engines it was going about 500mph (according to the info I heard on a TV special, which doesn't make it true). But every source I have read stated the same, that they were almost unstoppable because of the speed.
There were several models developed, but most were just too late to do any good.
I got a chuckle when I read they built a two seater for training.....OK, class dismissed. BOOMMMMMMM.
I would like to see the pics, I find them very interesting, even if they didn't accomplish much. I did find out late, that some had 3 jet engines, so I may have made a mistake there.

Great work! Could you design a "regular" kamikaze, with the bomber set to be invisible and the projectile altered to show up as, for example, a Zero or another single-engine plane?

Yes, I already experimented with that and it will work. I just have to clone a bomber to do it, otherwise ALL the Bettys in the game will be invisible. Then I saw this Ohka and decided to make one, so I have to go back and do the other.
But the same as this one, the zero will have to be a bomb or it will not crash into the ship.
