Wel-come aboard Kaleun ...

I would recommend Silent Hunter 3 with the GWX mod ...

Welcome to SubSim vanadio.

Sh2, 3, 4 and 5 are all WW2 based games. There are games that are based in other eras. Some are Dangerous Waters, 688(i)Hunter/Killer, Sub Command, etc.

Although I haven't played any of the modern era sims I'm sure the are lots of people on this forum who can fill you in.

For WW2:

SH3 and the GWX expansion is the best U-boat game around

SH4 Gold edition can be modded to do a full American pacific campaign or a worldwide U-boat campaign.

For Modern Era:

Dangerous Waters is your best bet. It includes 7 playable platforms.

My Personal Recommendation:

I recommend SH4 because you can go either way with it. Trigger Maru Overhauled, Real Fleet Boat, and Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign expand the American side if you are into that. If not, you have the option of Operation Monsun which opens all the U-boat Theatres of operation.

Definitely go for Dangerous Waters for your Modern Era Naval Combat

Welcome to Subsim and Happy Hunting!
