Default "easier" Lazy Watch Officer fix?

Is there some way to fix the "lazy watch officer" behavior...without having to start my installation all over, with the H.Sie patch?
No offense to his fine work...but I'm not looking 99% of what his patch does...and I do not want to start the entire SH3/GWX/ARB/etc., etc. installation all over again (I'm on my 4th install and everything is working fairly well...I want to go sink stuff...not start all over a 5th time) .

If the only way to correct this officer's behavior is the H.Sie patch...I guess I will live with it.

Yes via another patch but if you don't like H.sie's you probably won't like it either.https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...d.php?t=222180

You shouldn't have to do a re-install when using or not using H.sie's patch.

You are correct...it's another "patch" which means I cannot use it at this point?

My understanding of the ARB WideGUI install order instructions are:
1. H.Sie patch (if wanted)
2. Stiebler patch (if wanted)
3. (ARB) Tycho patch, then,
4. ARB mods.

Please correct me if I am wrong. My understanding is also that, since I did not use the H.Sie patch at the beginning of this extremely painful procedure, I can not just go and patch SH3.exe with the H.Sie patch whenever I choose, willy nilly? Understand that I also have GWX and SH3Commander installed, at this point.

Here's to hoping I am completely uninformed.

I'm not familiar with the ARB process. Regarding H.sie, patsh3r, etc. you can do it anytime. In fact its better to do it last to avoid conflicts. However, if you're using both H.sie's/Stiebler's patches, patsh3r is not compatible with them (unfortunate because it has some great features).
You can also change the options desired at any time; just copy the .exe file into the relevant folder, apply the options desired and put the .exe file and any other required files back in the game, etc. With patsh3r you just edit the main.cfg file. Both, very simple process.
Maybe it would be best if you state exactly what you're trying to do mod-wise and go from there.
At this stage I would advise keeping it simple until you're more comfortable with patching/modding. Otherwise you'll fall into the trap of so many here of modding/fixing/re-installing vs. actually playing the game.

See...see how stupidly crazy all this is? Bah...Humbug!

I'll be looking for the 21st century sub sim...and saving my sanity by not trying to make SH3 work.

It's actually not that hard. But you jumped into the deep end of the pool right off the bat by throwing a handful or two of mods together expecting them to work, while not knowing anything about any of them.
If you want to get going, simply apply GWX to a SH3 1.4b install. It can really be that easy.
Anyway, best of luck with any future subsuming endeavors.

It likely won't help you now, but my advice (assuming you have a goodly-sized hard drive):

Install a bare SH3 install and then use something like SH3 Front End to copy new installs.

I currently have the following:

C:\SilentHunterIII-Base\
C:\SilentHunterIII-GWA\
C:\SilentHunterIII-GWX\
C:SilentHunterIII-NYGM\
C:SilentHunterIII-WAC\

The first is my clean install - just installed and run once to set up the savegame directory.

I then used SH3FE (and I'm sure there are other methods to multicopy also) new games for GWX with alternate flotillas and the ARB Mod, GWX with the TKSS U-Boats and MaGUI mod, NYGM, and WAC5.2. After the copy, you just apply the 4GB patch and the H.sie fix (with only the lazy watchofficer fix selected) to each game.

Your "base" install never gets touched other than to copy to a new directory.

The only oddball amongst them is LSH since it uses its own installer.
