SF Bay Area goes into voluntary lockdown tomorrow. Home sweet home. There was already a marked reduction in traffic today anyway.

The Olympics are dead this and probably also next year.
And I wonder what nation even would be capable to finance them again in 2022.

Anyhow, the above video is interesting this time due to the financial and economic reflections from 16:06 on. Even if you do not want to watch the whole thing, watch it from there if you want to learn a bit about how this obliterates the money system further.

I started to wear my framemask when enetering shops today. I am the onmly one. Peope sdtare at me, confused, amused, some even angry. But I know two things: I sam already an idiot becasue I allowed to be shied away from doign so and so started to wear it days and days alter than I sould have started, and I know that in two weeks nobody of them will grin and laugh at me anymore. If only that blck rubber frame trhign would not look so clumsy and ugly, it really standas apart from the usual white maks you see. But it seals tghtly agauinst the skin and is efficient and allows eay breathing. Thats why it is superior. And then, its the only one I can get, because you cant get maks at all, and this is what was waiting in my survial chest since long time already, long before we even have heard of Corona.

You catch attention with that one, I tell you!

Thousands flock to British rock concert on Saturday.
Quote:
British rock band Stereophonics shared videos from a packed concert they performed on Saturday night in Cardiff, U.K. The band retweeted posts of people criticizing them for playing to thousands amid the coronavirus outbreak.

“Cardiff in beautiful voice tonight!” the band said over the weekend.

“8 trucks, 4 buses, 70 crew, 26 shows done 3 to go! Thank you to all who have come to see us. See you in Manchester and Cardiff!” the rockers said on Friday of the crew that helped put on the United Kingdom concert.

140,000 pack Mexico City music festival.
Quote:
While the coronavirus pandemic has led authorities around the globe to cancel concerts and sporting events, and even shut down daily activities in some places, Mexico City is going ahead with Vive Latino — one of the most important music festivals in the country.

Some acts backed out, but tens of thousands of music fans flocked on Saturday to the first day of the festival, which still expected Guns N’ Roses, Carlos Vives and Zoe to be among its headliners. Organizers said more than 70,000 tickets had been sold for each of the festival’s two days.

Just FYI, the mask doesn't do anything if you're healthy.
The mask is a good idea if you've already been diagnosed as contagious.

When you see those old vids of people in Asia wearing masks, THEY are the sick ones. They are wearing a mask to keep from spreading a disease.

I'm afraid this is incorrect.

Depends on the mask. If it's one of those cheap surgical masks you are right but Skybirds mad max version would probably work if he didn't keep going around to "shops" and just stayed in his basement.

Really? You're going to tell the rest of the class HOW LONG THE FILTER ELEMENTS LAST in an area of known contagion vs a clear area, right?

I'm guessing the time limit is close to half an hour, but I'm not an expert.

I like this guy just a doctor giving his professional opinion, no hype, no drama, no politics. Just doctor stuff.

Let them argue. Yes, he says the jury is still out but I changed my life style years ago (exercise, better eats, general health and welfare) and that reduced my blood pressure instead of taking blood pressure meds. From 160 over 110 10 years ago. My average today is 124 over 86

Then go ahead and don't wear a mask. It's your life and it doesn't matter either way to me.

Class dismissed.

Just do me one favor and read this thread again after a year has passed.
You'll understand more.

Skybird; Please tell me you know how to use that mask.
That includes knowing how to change out the filter after you've used it (each and every time) as well as how to properly clean it (vs how to improperly clean it). For example, by now you should know how to mix a Betadyne solution and what color that solution turns your skin as well as having several bags full of filter elements. You should also know why its a bad idea to use alcohol to clean the face seal and internal parts.

Does that mean you are locked down? You're in SF?

Keep us posted!

I know you've read that online, I totally disagree. If the mask seals and the user has appropriate eye protection, it is very effective. Why do you think the health professionals wear them?

Wrong.

What you talk of, are socalled surgeon mask. Abd yes, they are meant to protect patients from germ spread by the surgeon.

And even these would protect you - if EVERYBODY, the healthy, the knowing sick and the unknowwing sick would wear them. Because then every sick would wear one and would be hindered to spit virusses around of which he maybe does not even know that he has them, if he has not yet formed symptoms.

Mask of the kind I Use, actively protect you from particles, but you need a sufficient filter. In Europe, there are three filter classes, FFP 1, 2 And 3. You need FFP3 to filter out virusses and 99.99% of particles.

Even surgeon masks provide a bit of filtering protection, however, the hints for that are mounting. The governments say they are no use because they did not ready enough and now want to use them for staff, keeping people away from them.

The shown mask costed 27 euros with one wrong filter, i bought ffp3 separately. Tbe tissue is nanofibre for multi use. In principle it is looking more heavy and solid than it is, its craftsman and homeworker quality, the frame. Because this kind os mssk is just a surgeon mssk with improved ffp3 tissue but with silicon rims for better and more durable sealing versus the skin.single use filter like the ones you see on tv all the time, last until moisture from aersol made them eet, then they are dangerous. It is after20 to 30 minutes. However, better materials allow longer and multiple uses. A vent that allows the aerosol to leave, keeps it dry for longer, also extending duration.

In principle you can use every craftsmen mask from the baumarkt as long as it has a ffp3 filter.

Right now staff in hospitals is told to use even most primitive mask for all the shift, or even several shifts - even here in some German hospitals. In china and skorea they had to wear them for days.

Actually, I learned that by living in Japan for several years and visiting various ports in Asia.
I was also qualified in all the old NBC hoo-hah and specialized in Damage Control thingies (wearing and caring for many different types of filtration, direct-air, and re-breather masks).

So, yeah. It was part of my job.

Stop and think for just a minute. Any mask does diddly squat if you wear it when you don't need it. Those micron filters work in both directions and all you do is trap all the crap you breathed out, so you can breathe it back in the next time you put on the mask.

That isn't Covid-19 but it can be almost as nasty.
