It's kinda like a cross between farmville and SimCity I, but with really crappy graphics?

To be honest, I didn't really see how this could be fun either, until I watched a few videos some guy on youtube made (see dowly's link a few pages earlier) as well as playing the free version.

Now I'm waiting for bloody PayPal to update my account balance so I can buy this to make some poorly planne, developped on inherently unstable gravel and sand constructions

Minecraft is a game about harvesting blocks and building things with them; and at the moment there are very, very few types of blocks to make use of.

It's already good enough to be played, though, if you do like building games.

But if building is not your thing, then indeed there's no point in Minecraft...

Theres the exploration of a randomly generated world that everytime you restart guarantees to never ever be the same as well as the freakiness of (not so) scary monsters chasing you around said randomly generated map

This is all in SP of course.. Multiplayer I have no experience/glimpse of it and its goals

Few?

Clean stone, Cobblestone, mossy cobblestone, sand, gravel, obsidian, wood, brick, glass, cloth, iron, gold, diamond, ½ block, logs, water, lava, lightstone, netherstone aaand slow sand. All those can be used to build or decorate with some imagination.

Found another pretty good let's play series called "Coe's Quest", alot like X's adventures but with 70+ episodes and counting.

Ah yes, his 'how to survive your first night in Minecraft' video introduced me to him and then started to watch the let's play, think it was right about at the time MC had that free weekend thing.

Aye, SeaNanners has good series too. Problem being, as with X, is that he is more committed to other games (MoH/CoD) so there's new MC vids very rarely.
