I love this song.

There are so many instrumental videos on this song at youtube. but this guy easily gives the best interpretation I have ever heard of this.

Having been born and raised in San Francisco, I've heard that song so many times, you'd think I would be tired if it, but every time I hear it, it still brings up a lot of memories. The line about "little cable cars climb halfway to the stars" always reminds me of when I was small child and would watch in wonder from the bottom up a long steep hill as the cable cars would slowly roll up to the top and disappear over the crest. Some cities may have songs touting themselves, but few are as beautiful as this song. The song itself has a rather interesting story:

I had always thought the song was fairly old, but I find I am actually older than the composition, although the song is in better shape and vastly more popular...

Victor Borge was so immensely talented, he defied easy description. One of the great joys of growing up in the 50s and 60s was being able to see Borge on a lot of live TV programs and watch as he took on anything and everything in the world of music, stand it on its head, and make it all his own. He is very much missed and I doubt, in this age of corporate media-oriented entertainment, we shall ever soon see someone like him again. Rod Stewart - Sailing (live).

Saw this performed live in concert last night and thought it was one of the many highlights of the evenings performance.

This version is from a concert in Germany earlier this year.

Just heard this group on a local college/NPR radio station and was very impressed by the voice of the lead singer. The group is called the Seratones and the lead singer is named A. J. Hines; she brings to mind the sound of Janis Joplin:
