And now a general assortment of pics:
8am on a Sunday morning at Saxmundham station, the most life around was the local cat hunting in the trackside undergrowth. The obstacle course to get off the train. Traditional York Minster shot. Taken the day before the bigwigs met regarding women bishops. China Railways 'Confederation class' or KF City class 'City of Truro' alledgedly the first locomotive in the world to break 100mph, but sadly done without a dynamometer car so the record was not officially broken until Flying Scotsman took it in 1934, some thirty years later. A proper 'Charlie', Bulleids Q1 freight locomotive, nicknamed 'Charlies' and 'Coffee pots' because of their unusual shape, they were designed to be cheap to build, light-weight (to run on most loading gauges), easy to maintain and powerful despite their weight. An overview of the main hall at the National Railway Museum Another shot of the main hall, showing the red streamlined 'Coronation' class 'Duchess of Hamilton'. The LMS's response to the LNERs streamlined A4s, they were more powerful but inferior in design, resulting in the streamlining being removed on all of the locomotives from 1946. Another Stephensons Rocket replica, this one a fully working steaming version. Beauty shot of the river Ouse. Last edited by Oberon; 07-15-14 at 02:21 PM. |

And now for the Air Museum:
The impressive Handley Page Victor, converted from a bomber to a tanker The Banana or as Jim would call it, the Brick (to me though, Bricks are F4s) The French Dassault Mirage III, a nice looking aircraft this one, first time I'd seen it. Another first, the Eastchurch Kitten, cute little thing, probably piloted by midgets... The infamous Hurri, in the same sort of condition that the Lolwaffles (or Royal Air Farce) would return to base in. Another Banana, freshly cleaned and in good condition compared to its stable-mates A model of the Anti-radiation missile 'Martel', I'd heard the name mentioned a few times (in Wargame: Airland battle and Red Dragon) but never seen one before The Halifax bomber 'Friday the 13th' with two strange looking gentlemen nearby... The pride and joy of the Lolwaffles, the Bf-109 G6!! A Mosquito, undergoing repair and restoration, and looking very good for it. This was originally mis-ID'd as a Challenger Mk I, but on inspecting the model on my desk and a quick google search, I've discovered that this is, in fact, the ubiquitous Chieftain...in fact, the very first Chieftain, the prototype. Either which way, a very nice battle tank. The front desk of the recon Canberra cockpit. Nice little bit of history this. The catapult used by Barnes Wallis to test the models of his bouncing bomb at Teddington, and actually used in the famous film 'The Dam Busters' And finally a bit of older history, a statue to Roman Emperor Constantine who was proclaimed Emperor in York in 306AD. |

Nice pics, and thanks for the 'gentlemen' comment.
I don't know about you but I'm shattered and in need of lots of non-alcohic fluids and an early night. Don't want to be doing Jim's job tonight.

Jim's pockets were quite a few pounds lighter when he left the shop. Should be a couple. Should be a couple of new additions to his aircraft collection thread soon.

Yeah ???
Where is it Proved to myself I can handle the miles, I can handle the beer, I can find my way around a major metropolis and I can walk from Whitehall to Mile end. In the end, I have just only one regret |
