I remember, there was this one Australian TV movie from 2000 called On the Beach; it was a remake of the old 1950s movie of the same name.
Basically, it's about a Los Angeles-class SSN, (688i I believe), in 2006 that survives World War III between the PRC and USA. Pretty decent, although there are many factual errors up the ass (arse). Still, it's worth a watch, even with the bad American accents. Oh, and did I mention it has Armand Assante in it? Last edited by Kaye T. Bai; 11-27-10 at 06:01 AM. |

She took the cork out of the bottle. It was ten past ten. She said ernestly, Dwight, if you're on your way already, wait for me.
Then she put the tablets in her mouth and swallowed them down with a mouthful of brandy, sitting behind the wheel of her big car. So ends Nevil Shute's book, On the Beach. |

John Paul Jones.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052946/ Only saw it in the theater when it was released, so I don't remember if it was any good. The Key. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051816/ Again I saw it as a kid and don't remember much, so who knows?

The Winds of War and War and Rememberance TV mini-series (both books are worth reading too.)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085112/ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096725/ Not necessarily a dedicated WW2 naval drama, the story revolves around Navy Commander Victor "Pug" Henry (Robert Mitchum), and his son Byron Henry (a sub commander) during WW2 and takes on a far bigger scope. The first series begins before WW2 and leads up to the attack on Pearl Harbor, then continues in the second series. |

Usually I give people grief for resurrecting old threads, but your comment was worth it.

Plus, it's available free streaming from the Internet Archives: http://www.archive.org/details/We_Dive_at_Dawn_1943 In a related note: The archive has over 4,000 videogame videos, only one of which is "Aces of the Deep", and none of the "Silent Hunter" series! http://www.archive.org/details/gamevideos |

My favourite WWII naval films:
"We dive at dawn" "The cruel sea" "Above us, the waves" "Tora! Tora! Tora!" "Sink the Bismark!" "The battle of the River Plate"
