Quick question, I'm getting CTD when I attempt the Breaking the Fortress mission. I've tried 3 times and it CTD's every time, I even attacked the tanker first and same result. Now when I fire at the BB, it CTD's just before impact, but with the tanker it CTD'd on impact. I know the BB would probably detect the torps (T1's) in the final stage of their journey whereas the tanker probably wouldn't, so I'm suspecting it's related to alert state?

And also, as I've been shifting mods around to find a working order my game would differ between patrol 1 and patrol 2 (where I attempted the mission). Could this be a cause? Should I try starting a new career with a mod loadout and stick with it until I can have a go at the BB again? Seeing as flags are affected after a mod reload it seems feasible no? I did post this in the Mod Loadout/Order thread but as yet no answer.

Hi Damo

Yes - this seems to be a common CTD. I have been looking at the cause for a while now with no luck finding it.

This ctd happens with or without OHII but for some (myself included) it does not happen.

I think it could be one of two reasons.

1 - When torp hits a target, the action stations being triggered is causing it. Could it be with a re-action set that the game is not finding. I have searched through the events and triggers but can fin nothing.
there was a trigger in verions before v1.3 where DDs were set to re-act, but I have removed this.
I have also removed all the spawn nodes and replaced them with direct placed ships, but if you are getting this with the tanker - then it was one of the direct placed ships so it has not fixed it.

2 - memory issues. I remember when I had my old PC, I would get this ctd with torp hit or torp detected when attacking a convoy that had more than say 20 ships. Upgrading my PC with 64bit OS and more ram and better graphics card has stopped all the ctds I was getting.
Scapa has many thing going on (just like a large convoy) and this could be the cause.

So are you using a 32 or 64 bit OS and have you added the 3 or 4 gig patch. Also what is you graphics and ram?

Re: switching your mod load - I do know that this can cause a frozen flag issue - but it sorts itself out with the next patrol. I would not think this is the cause.

W7 x64 Ultimate
Phenom 2 x4 955 Black Edition
8GB Kingston Hyper X (2x 4GB)
Gigabyte GTX 460 OC 1GB

All drivers up to date, windows update is up to date.

SH5.exe is v1.2, with TDW's patch (hydrophone fix) and 4GB patch applied.

Before I went to Scapa (2nd patrol) I headed up the east coast and ran into a large unescorted convoy with 3 Troop transports 4 Large passenger ships and a bunch of large steamers that I proceeded to expend all my torps and ammo on giving me a total tonnage of 206000GRT (!!!) including some single freighters I ran into enroute so I returned to Wilhelmshaven (base changed mid patrol) and refitted and headed straight to Scapa as I only had 5/6 days before the BB mission expired. I saved about 100km from Scapa and have loaded that save without issue each time I've attempted the raid.

I'm currently finalizing my mod order and it is as follows;

Please note I have not attempted the raid with this list but will hopefully get some time later, although it's not that far different from what I had active before.

I guess I can live without the raid as I wasn't a great harbor raider in SH3 due to the fact it wasn't a common practice historically anyway, I'm only aware of Prien's venture. If as you say the DD's don't react it seems too easy and I have a long history of making things hard for myself, haha.

On a side note, and maybe a little off topic, I saw something about side missions somewhere (dropping off spies and the like) but can't find it again. Is this part of OH, stock game or is it a separate mod do you know?

Yes - looks a good system and should be no issues there.

please see here for when I did this mission without issue.
Are you attacking the same BB?

You have a large mod list and with the harbour improvments you may want to try the 4gig patch. (it is a simple app to update your exe)

There are in the stock game, but for the most - you need to do many patrols on the same objective to get passed all the "patrol here" missions before you get to the drop spy ones. (each time you return to base and select the same objective on the briefing map - you get a new side mission)

OHII puts these missions near the top of the list - so for most they will be within 3 re-selections of the same objective - thus ensuring you can get them more often.

Ah yes, that's where I saw the writeups on the side missions, thanks. Also, my .exe is already patched with 4GB largeaddressaware. BB is Royal Sovereign??

Hi Damo!

With mtns and the harbour improvements the loading time at the start of a new career is much increased. Also a black screen appear for some (1-3) minutes. The game looks like frozen.

Yes, this is in my main folder (manually added) and set to 35fps, although I disabled pre-fetch as I thought my system wouldn't need it. The fps limit does make it smoother though

using TDW UI mod and OH2 1.6 Full, which both seem to have radio messages in them, question is do i actually need another radio mod for campaign messages?

The engine for the radio messages comes from my UIs mod (it's a DLL that does it). OH2 adds some radio messages (txt files) to my radio messages folder so that you get campaign radio messages. Anyone can make radio messages and add them to my radio messages folder. I set it up so that it was user expandable

Could be the combination of mtns - more traffic, nations and ships 1_8a and Dynamic Environment SH5. Try deactivate Dynamic Environment SH5.
