Here's something that probably is in s7rikeback's domain. I was cruising SE of Tokyo Bay when I picked up a radar contact. Turned out to be two Shiratsuyu DDs . Both of them looked like the screenie below.

I looked in the sea folder under NDD Shiratsuyu and couldn't see anything that was obvious at least to my limited knowledge. Did notice that there is still a tga files in there. I thought they were garbage. One other thing of note, the Shiratsuyu looked fine in the Museum. Wondering if this is the same one that max posted about, sure looks like it. The game engine got a little choppy after that encounter also.

With all due respect for that thread, none of that is necessary. Drop the H-bomb on your game directory and follow the instructions in my tutorial. In ten minutes you're back in business still playing the same savegame you left. Why care about exactly what the problem is when you can fix it before you could ever get a quarter of the way through diagnosing it? Just drop the H-bomb and be done with it!

[QUOTE=Rockin Robbins;2450151]

You'll also find enemy warships to be uncannily accurate. They can and will hit you with the first or second salvo from 9000 yards out. They have a great gun platform and men motivated and trained to be the best. You have a lousy gun platform and men who man the deck gun if they want to die. Your deck gun IS a great place to dry laundry. Otherwise it's quicker and more effective to point your finger at the enemy and yell "Bang! Bang!" then scurry below quickly.

I come from the "italian school" (torpedoes and deck gun together. Look Carlo fecia di cossato and the Tazzoli patrols in the atlantic, or Salvatore Todaro and the Cappellini, or The Da Vinci, best non german sub for ship sunk in the atlantic. They first fire torpedoes. Then surface and engage with deck gun. Dangerous. Indeed Doenitz didnt like this tactic. But admired it. Fecia di cossato and others was recipient of iron cross, knights cross too for their.actions in atlantic. They often come back to bordeaux with some serious damage, but with several ships sunk too. In one of the most success patrols the Tazzoli sunk 38.000tons in the carribean i guess. Drumbeat ops. There the italian boats had.the best success using this tactic. But they had powerful 100 mm deck guns. Not a 3.50 like me. later i ll mount a 4.50. Hunting single merchants in center and south america. The Tazzoli hunted in florida too. Sinkin several ships like the merchantman montevideo or the philipine ship dona aurora.
My grandpa was awarded too for a surface fight against 5 escorts in perim strait...was his 18 birthday. At end after forcing 2 escorts to withdraw for damages, they was hit and the skipper scuttled.the boat.
7 years of pow camp in india later.)
So using this tactic.i guess i ll be sunk many times in fotrs. Yet in tmo i survive.but with damages, sailors hurt or dead etc etc).

I have found this also cdrsubron7. I've looked in several places for clues, and I always thought that the Home Port dictated where you got your "extra-curricular activities" from, but I can't find a thing in the data files just yet... I'm worried that the "Photo Adak" that I made might be caught by someone out of Fremantle now...

You should.be careful and investigate especially by late 43 in empire waters....
Another time passing between new guinea and bismark sea.i attacked 3 sampans. After 5 minutes 3 long range bombers arrived and i m been forced to escape....possibly the sampans gived away.my pos...
Your using the radio to x-mit will increase the odds of them figuring out an American Fleet Boat is around, and the more you transmit, the more "data" they gather. Receiving shouldn't affect things though. Being seen by any of the fishing boats or sampan will get you a response from some branch of the Japanese military ASAP. Sometimes it's right away, sometimes quite a while, but you will see airplanes at a minimum. Being seen by an airplane will garner you much attention also. They do simulate that rather well in FotRS, and it's still there in Ultimate.

I've been through the Roster and Sea folders with a fine-toothed comb myself, looking for issues with the Haruhatsu, MomiII and now these guys. I do not see any issues. The tga files for the most part are all dds, but not all of them apparently. Should not matter. I'm wondering if there isn't a "date" off, or maybe those missing lines I was talking about the other day. ?? It is very difficult to reproduce these results though. We've had skinning that disappears from the vessel, but not the guns, like this one, and times where the skinning disappears from the guns, but not the vessel. Very strange. Do you happen to know the date on this one cdrsubron7, to maybe we can ID the file it's coming from? It's probably yours and my fault... 'specially yers... - but seriously, there's most likely something wrong in the campaign files (that'd be me), since the Museum seems to do just fine... I think. I sure would like to be able to blame it on s7rikeback, especially since he can't defend himself right now...

Have you tried this technique in FotRS Ultimate yet, ArditoCorsaro? I've had an experience, where it was 0200 hours local time, North coast of Honshu, we're cruising on the surface at ahead 2/3, nothing on radar, nothing in sight. Can't even see a shoreline, when there's a "flash" at about the 330 mark, then another and another. Pause a few seconds, then you heard incoming shells, sploosh! sploosh! KABOOM!!!! and there was a gaping hole in the conning tower. I was already turning away to the North at Flank, and had just hit crash dive, when the next rounds came in and we got hit again by one. We got hurt ~bad~. When I looked on the chart, the nearest land mass, according to the chart was like 9200-9500 away. Just a little unrealistic, but that's the way they made FotRS, and it's still in there... The enemy is all a bunch of Herculaneum Supermen with super vision and hearing... They probably didn't shoot the shells from a gun, but rather, held them in their hands and bit the ends of the shells to ignite the propellant... - but Double R is working on it...

Indeed i m sure i ll be killed several times. Instead in land warfare, like in total war i m a very careful commander. Using an attrition guerrilla strategy, never engaging big field battles, only skirmishes and sieges, where have a stromg adantage. Something like the small force theory of belisarius.
In sh i m too.bold sometime and that cost me much often. Not killed.even. but ever some sailor dead, serious damages, also if much tonnage.

... as for that picture of your boat RR, it was the tablet. I can clearly see on the computer that you've got decks awash...

... and for ArditoCorsaro:

I couldn't find the original post, so this is just a straight link to the video, but if my memory serves me correctly, I had like 32x or 64x TC going at the time, got a radar contact which brought me down to 1x TC, I was already on the chart screen, and had an 8500 circle sitting there. I marked where the airplane was, and he was over 9200 out, going at a 100 degree AOB to me, practically straight across. While I'm doing all this marking up, he does a right-angle turn, and comes right at me, so lets say he is 9k out at the time of his turn. So I hit "Crash Dive!", and before all the noise mayhem stops, there's two more planes coming my way on the radar from about 10k out. I turned the boat towards them, hit 210 or so on the depth, since I already knew about where the thermal layer was, and I expected a DD to come visit, since I know the Single Missions I was testing. Once I hit the thermal layer and go to Ahead 1/3, turn hard left, and that's when the bombs start to fall. Now, that exact spot where they bomb towards the beginning of the video, is where they continued to bomb for the next while, back and forth with the DD and the airplanes. By the time "The Incident" occurs, there's like 8 airplanes on the scene, all targeting the same general location. So, while it ~looks~ initially like they're good, they really aren't. Now, if the DD would have been closer, he would most likely have heard me, and then I would have had that whole crew parked on top of me while they did all those bombing run. I do think though, that "The Incident" would still have happened, 'cause those fly-boys are just a little bit overboard with their enthusiasm... We do have to change their Superman eyesight though... Able to see a submarine from 9200, and at 200 foot depth...
In past i loved harder escorts.
Later i start to use easier ai for tmo. (not so easier like someone think. Also rfb isnt so easier. If you.met the wrong escort, and you met it often, you re dead.) why?
Because while i like harder escorts, the pacific wasnt the atlantic, so yes they should be harder, but not exagerating. On the other side a historical escort, is boring. You yet know that it set bombs to 150 until 43, and you easily survive early war.
So with easier ai for tmo, i found annhalf way in tmo. Some escorts are normal. Others force you.to go at 450 feets, and kill you..especially troop transport escorts.
Planes are the same. I use also ijn radar fix,.since their sea search radar had a limited effect against subs.
I founded a balance with that mods.
While i started months ago play rfb thinkin to a historic ai, i found that wasnt so.
Oftrn, also in 41, you.met the elute crew.that force you to dive at 350-400-450 ft, or kill you even.
The scouts sometime dont see you (like in reality. But if they see you, often they dont attack. Simply report your pos. And an hunter killer group, present from 41, arrive. Once a pilot that live near my home, an old man, that in ww2 was a scout here in adriatic sea, and sunked an uboot after the armistice, because that uboot torpedoed a tanker in front of my home, the wreck is here,12 miles from the coast,80 meters deep. He was called by the sos. Arrived he dropped 2 depth charges, the boat remained at periscope depth leaking fuel, and bubbles, and later disappeared for ever.....it is there. But no one dare to visit it. It is considered a grave. Well this man told that when you fly in sea, the brain start to joke sometime. And you.dont see something. Often the submarines spotted the scouts, but the scouts.didnt spotted the subs.).
So i was surprise to find such level of difficult for rfb.
But i liked it. I dont like.much a too high.level. once i did like. Now i prefer just a little lower level. But not an easier, or an historical one (you.know. 150 ft....but from 44 they kick hard. The grand escort fleet.)
Btw also in rfb (i used it with guerrilla spyron mod.) the escorts sunk alone sometime. For the rough sea. While they hunt you, 1-2-3-4-5 destroyers sunk. Ahahh

It is unknown at this point whether Mad_Max increased the accuracy of ship's guns over TMO or not. Either is a formidable target. So I'm very interested in your comparisons with your tactics of TMO and FOTRS Ultimate. If we find that the escorts are a lot more accurate than TMO I will turn them down a little. Enemy AI is my territory here. Side note: it is possible to set ship gun accuracy so that the very first shot goes down the conning tower hatch every time! That would be our "Don't surface within 5 miles of a warship" plugin!

For v0.45 we're concentrating on campaign stuff. Although testers are not having problems with it, we're finding that even the stock game is riddled with campaign errors that impact game performance. Anybody notice the quicker loading times over previous versions? That's because the Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse, s7rikeback, propbeanie and cdrsubron7 have done incredible work rooting out the errors that Jeff-Groves put them on the scent of. And Florida Sailor works in the background there too. Believe it or not they're halfway through.

Then we have missing textures (special Japanese night camo!), enemy AI, sub physics, surprise tester finds and whatever else blows our skirts up. All the while we can't let the mod get any bigger. That means fixing it takes precedence over applying band-aids.

You'll find this on all subs. The American TBT (Target Bearing Transmitter) was placed on the front of the Conning Towers bulkhead. You only get to look forward with the device since looking rearward would put you over the side of the Tower, standing in mid air.

See there's this big conning tower behind you. You'll notice that FOTRS Ultimate is also the first mod since an RFB plugin I made many moons ago when I was trying to sell the plugin mods concept to those who thought differently, to actually obstruct your vision with crewmen, objects and the conning tower on the sub. If you want to look astern you'll have to move to a position where you can see in that direction.

On the TBT, the Capn put stops on the rotation mechanism. But with binoculars, you're perfectly free to scrutinize the conning tower through your binoculars. Either way, nine years of x-ray vision has been nuked! Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate Edition has another tic on its hitlist.

I'm going to say that some of the odd texturing issues might even be a Campaign issue. ~ANYTHING~ that's off in the Campaign files has consequences, and not all of them are CTD territory, so since the vessels seem to be OK in the Museum every time I've checked, I'm looking elsewhere (and I'm getting very bored checking the Museum 2 and 3 times each time I load the game).
