Default Type XXI Radar Destroyed?

As soon as I load up my first patrol in a type XXI from Bergen, I instantly receive a message, "Radar Damaged!" followed by "Radar Destroyed!". I don't use it anyway but I was wondering why this happens? Im using GWX 3.0 Gold.

I played stock SH3 and when I got my type XXI, the very same thing happened. Choked me up too because I could have saved those renown points for new torpedos or whatever.
I think the game wasn't expecting anyone to get that far and they (the programmers) didn't do their jobs properly. Rather than let you have a working radar system, they just "destroyed" it to preserve the integrity of the game.
If anyone else has a more accurate answer regarding the instant failure of a brand new system even before leaving port, I would also like to know...

I believe, in GWX 3.0 one has to follow a special procedure to install a late war radar antenna ...

From the GWX manual, on page 70:

Quote:
Selecting either of these RWR antennas while at the Radar Warning Upgrade screen may result in the destruction of all RWR equipment aboard your U-boat on your next mission. The new RWR schnorchel antennas will appear on the U-boat upgrade screen at the aforementioned dates, but do not select them. You must follow a special procedure to allow GWX to perform the upgrades automatically since the system of using renown points to purchase equipment does not work for devices that were not included in stock Silent Hunter III.

A. FuMB-3 Bali: You must perform the following steps after the upgrade screen shows it is available for installation on a Type VII U-boat, Type IX U-boat, or their variants (see Figure 66).

Step 1: Exit the game while in base before a mission.
Step 2: Enable / install the GWX modification ―Late War Sensors Snorkel Antennas‖ located in the ―SH3/Mods‖ subfolder. The GWX team recommends using the JSGME tool - provided with GWX - for easy installation of this feature. Please read the JSGME documentation for instructions on enabling and disabling software modifications. Step 3: Reload the game and continue your career from the same point you exited in Step 1 by selecting the last saved entry, ―In base before mission‖

B. FuMB-37 Leros: GWX installs this automatically, so no player action is required.

Thanx jimbuna. It turns out i didnt need radar as i have sunk 3 Escorts of various types, 1 Bogue Class Aircraft Carrier, HMS Howe, 1 Schuka Class Submarine and 1 Modern Tanker for 66893 GRT. This Type XXI is really something else. If the Germans had this even a year earlier the ocean would be a dangerous place for anyone not on Germany's side

Hi Jimbuna,

I started a career in April 1944, which seems to be the earliest date the XXI is available. As the OP stated, when the game starts, the radar is immediately destroyed.

From the manual, it states for the XXI at (B) that it is automatically installed. I do not attempt to mount any sensors when first starting, but the radar still dies. I've attempted adding the mod, which I understand is for the VII and IX only, but the same happens at the start of the patrol. I then suspected it might be that it hits something in the bunker, so I had my patrol started out at sea, but the antenna is still destroyed.

Any advice or suggestions would be awesome. Would be great to use the boat to her full potential.

My mod list is:

GWX - 16km Atmosphere
GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - English Nav Map and Grid Refs
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
GWX - Main Movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
GwX - VIIC41 Player Sub
Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71
OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX
OLC GUI 1.2.7 Core Files
DoubleMastValues

Steam version of SH3 GWX3

I'm sorry but I can't add anything else to the advice quoted at #4

I don't have a GWX installation on my system atm to even attempt to replicate the problem.

Is it possible you have an additional third party mod that is causing some kind of conflict?
