I can also relate to the "quit making this damn thing better so I can start playing it instead of taking screenshots all the time!" I've long since stopped using anything but SH5 screenies for desktop backgrounds and my kids are forever going "wow, dad! Is that a real picture?" The screenie I took in the post above was with my new settings and much trial and error. I can now turn everything up to "awesome" and, even on my rig, still stay above 20FPS even in "heavy" areas. I also noticed, other than upgrading to nVidia's latest drivers instead of sticking with what works, that part of my problem other than the aging CPU is a lack of system memory. I'm still chugging along with only 4Gb of it (64-bit system so it IS using it) and it's never been a problem before. Even with my old 260 I could run BFBC2 with 60 FPS and everything turned up to "wow", but SH5 is a different animal, particularly if you use the mods that make it worth playing. It's not only CPU heavy, it's also very much MEM heavy. I noticed that by looking at my HDD LED when I was in port with low frame rates. It was on constantly, shuffling data between the HDD and the mem. And I know that it's not my HDD transfer rates, I built this rig far better than it needed to be when I built it, it's just that it hasn't enough mem to store it in with "only" 4Gb. So I've got another 4Gb on the way to get me up to 8Gb. I'm fairly confident that that'll help. And if it doesn't, it's only $60. But at least everything is stable as a rock now, even when I turn it up to "wow".

Indeed this game is system hungry, but at least it can justify itself by its appearance. And it is definitely worth of investments for the new hardware to run it smoothly. The reason making it worth are definitely modders. Without the mods I wouldn't be bothered to even look at SH5 in the shop.

Heyho,
havent been here in a (long) while. But in my last week of Holyday a thought came to my mind. Gotta do a SH5 Video ... again. I havent had the chance in the past 2 years for any project of this kind and the one I'm preparing right now will be a small project so I can finish it in time. And I think this might be the only community who can appreciate the ammount of work that goes into that stuff. If you like you can watch my previous SH5 movie here: Also, there are two 2-part movies I made in SH4, visit my channel if you havent already seen them, I postet them back in the days^^. Just wanted to say thanks, since this forum is the only reason i ever started making this vids and I always learned alot by doing it |

OHII Scapa .. So fun for 1st timer!
I had asked about SH5 historical accuracy & Scap Flow a couple weeks ago ... I had no idea OHII and all the great mods by sober and TDW existed ... a couple weeks later (fresh install, new soup, and a some appreciated help getting going), and it was wicked fun ...
I played it out two nights in a row back to back .... I used these as a rough guide: http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-47RoyalOak.htm http://www.u47.org/english/u47_sca.asp?page=2 http://uboat.net/allies/merchants/68.html http://www.mainecustomdesign.com/SH5...u47log_map.jpg No CTDs at all, went perfect ... very challenging for 1st timer .... A couple guys who helped me get it all going correctly said I should post some screens, I hope you guys don't mind! Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's off to work we go .... I didn't hit any of these thanks to advice to stay on surface! The mines & nets are great .. I got hung up once on a cable or something .. had to use full reverse ... A car or truck shined it's lights on us, but must not have seen ... Better submerge just in case, now that we're past the narrows ... "Navi ... Come over here for a minute ... I want to talk to you ..... Listen ... If - you - tell - me - we're - in - shallow *%$# waters - just - ONE - MORE - TIME .... I'm throwin' you off the *%$# boat right here, right now ... " "We are in shallow waters my captain ... " Entering the flow, we sneak north hugging land until we see the cap ship ... Finally in range! Salvo causes phantasmagorical results Sound guys says we have a couple on the move heading in ... We give em' one each in the nose .. they actually ran into em'! Another Ship moving in? Head On? Another one in the nose .. ran right into it All clear, lets get outta here |
