Hold it. Since I just got Flaming Cliffs 2, can you add a flyable fixed winged aircraft to the mission first?

Whilst waiting for my systems to align I have a peek at the other a/c. What's he firing at? I wondered. Ah, the poor Kiowa. Which despite the myriad holes and missing airframe still made it home okay - why do I not? Anyway, caught up with the two Hinds, and got them both with guns. Before promptly crashing. Off I go again, just as Arclight's approaching for his usual spot-on landing. Magic mirrors, can see through cloud. Hands up those who think they know how long this a/c continued flying for? Correct - not long at all. Hawk2495 refuelling The end of a long and fruitful day, no damage other than my jetisoned canopy, not even a parking dent this week. Obviously we weren't going again and I couldn't be bothered to wait for the ladder to extend. Arclight not overly chuffed that I've just wrecked my a/c so close to his - his poor crew chief has only just recovered from repairing it after my ultra-low fly-by the other week scraped the paintwork! From my point of view a very good night, only one a/c lost, no hung stores, didn't run out of fuel. Things are looking up.

That's not my fault, somebody moved the airfield several dozen kilometers away while I wasn't looking!

We really tore apart the enemy airfield. Think this is Berbunch passing below after making our gun runs, ricochets hitting the water further down. 3 succesfull landings. Some more succesfull than others, but any landing you can walk away from... means more work for your crew chief. No trading paint, I'm impressed. And the usual to wrap it up: Berbunch's flying circus. I nearly get hit in the head with an ejection seat. (My G-meter is lying! I swear!) And my aircraft has holes completely unrelated to any of my actions.

Ok, I survive a fight with 4 tors and a dog ear. Manage to take out the dog ear and 1 tor, five or six t-55s, numerous other ground targets. I RTB and get almost taken out by a bird...
It doesn't look so bad. Chief shouldn't be too mad.. Except for having to replace the canopy, seat, rebuild the starboard engine, fix the nose gear. Nah shouldn't be that bad. |

Nice shots Herr und Arc. Yeah I think I got to take on about 100 lbs of fuel before I had to break off. That took forever. Every time I would be at speed and lined up, he decided change heading...lol

Yeah, think I'll change his path and give him a longer leg to fly, having the same trouble... Could slow him down a bit, but it's easier to nail the speed as it is now.
A bird? That explains it. Stuff like birdstrikes and random failures are on, but it is exceedingly rare. Anyone know what the real things fly at in terms of speed and altitude when refueling A-10?

I'm not seeing much on the speeds for an A-10 refuel, but I would think that 250-270 knots sounds about right. Any higher and she would burn too much fuel just to stay with the tanker. Especially since the KC-135 can move at about 500 knots @ 30,000.
Now a question for Herr-Berbunch. What key do you have bound for your mic switch aft? I'm thinking you were using the wrong radio for contacting the tanker, but I could be wrong. |

The VHF radio (bottom left hand side) set to 51.000, tried switching the r/hand knob to T R and A A T R, then press # to bring up the comms list.
If that is wrong then please do tell.
