Got into a convoy almost perfectly Suddenly some destroyers decided to drop depth charges at me, well before evading I decided to launch a salvo, maybe I'd get lucky and hit something. The depth charges hit my coning tower perfectly, everything destroyed, all the scopes, radar warning, flak's everything... I turned my tail , launched one circling torpedo at the convoy and went to 230m.

After the torpedo circled and missed a whale factory, some troop ships and tankers it decided to hit a 2kT Nipiwan tanker, well at least it sunk it. Going back to base was fun, no radar warning and the watch crew refused to go up and watch for ships. I hate going blind....

I had a similar experience. And every time I surfaced the automatic watch crew died, some exposure

Weird, mine just stayed in the boat, no one died in that patrol. The sub did however look abandoned from the outside and strangely I still got those "Ship spotted" messages that ask for your command, oh and the UZO was usable, not like it's useful in 1943.

Now that I think about it, if they couldn't go up to watch ships, how did they get out of the sub in base? Did it get cut open ? Well maybe they used the back up exits, but still how is it possible to maneuver in the port while being inside?

I was in a similar situation in a IXD2 in the middle of Indian Ocean trying to make it to Penang. Never did.

That's easy. You are one the best Kaluens in the KM. You can do it by heart.

The Kiel Kanal.

I really do appreciate you GWX guys coding that in there. I really do. It saves me 2-3 days of travel time, only takes 12 hours now.

But Real time.... I have it maxed to 64x near land, and my watch crew freaking out every time a squirrel runs along the shore.... sigh......

After sinking a merchant , I returned to my initial course , and set TC to 128. Too bad , as I went right into the sinking vessel.
I will never do this again.

They could just have been towed or cut the hatch open when they were near port and safe.

I did something similar in torpedo training - passed over sinking ship on time compression only to have it explode on its way down.

---------

And from current patrol: I've met most resilient Small Tanker ever:

- first attack on convoy, I hit him with magnetic torpedo. It slows down but doesn't sink
- second attack, I fire another torpedo that misses (heavy seas, passed under him without detonating). Then a destroyer drives me away.
- meantime, weather clears and sun rises. I regain contact and attack now lonely ship. While setting up a shot, I see another smoke behind it. Destroyer! I fire quickly and dive with shells flying over my head. Before the periscope goes under, I hear explosion and see big column of smoke rising over the water...
- after being depth-charged several times, I evade the destroyer and rise to PD once again... hey, what's this smoke? You've got to be kidding me... but no, the tanker is still there, plodding happily at 0,9 knots. He just won't give up.

Bad weather + IIa.

These things don't have the speed to chase down contacts as they blow by you in the North Sea in rough seas.

Would that be the proper use of the ONOFF switch?

(Sigh... sounds better when you spell it out, out loud. ie "Did you check the O N O F F Switch?")
