The White Horse Final: The Empire Stadium, Wembley, is opened to the public for the first time and holds the FA Cup Final between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United football clubs. Crowds are cleared from the pitch by mounted police, including one on a white horse. The 1923 FA Cup final. Crowd flooding the Wembley pitch. 300,000 tickets were sold for the 125,000 seats. The London Underground sold more than 241,000 tickets from stations within London to Wembley, the buses were overwhelmed with fans. London, UK

Ship Losses: Alioth (United Kingdom) The ship was driven ashore and wrecked in West Bay, Dorset. Elizabeth Ann Slater (United Kingdom) The cargo ship collided with Teesider ( United Kingdom) in the North Sea off Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland. She was beached at South Shields.

The impeachment attempt of the nationalist DVP against the Minister of Interior Carl Severing (SPD) in the prussian parlament fails. Due to time limits the KPD is not allowed to read their Declaration of support for Severing. As a result there is a fist fight between SPD and KPD MPs Ship Losses: Kissho Maru (Japan) The cargo ship collided with Seikai Maru ( Japan) at Shimonoseki and sank.

Arrival of General Gouraud in Orléans for the fêtes de Jeanne d'Arc. Ship Losses: Lake Gebhart (United States) The Design 1093 cargo ship ran aground on the Umatilla Reef off Cape Flattery, Washington. She broke in two and was a total loss.

The French court-martial in Werden sentenced Gustav Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach, head of the Krupp company, to 15 years in prison. Eight directors and plant managers also receive prison sentences. The convicts are found guilty of the bloody incident at the Krupp works in Essen. Ship Losses: Manhattan Island (United States) The cargo ship ran aground at Sari Siglar, Turkey. She was refloated on 17 May.

The U.S. Navy light cruiser USS Richmond (CL-9) underway during trials off Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ship Losses: Yugala (Thailand) The cargo ship was severely damaged by fire at Singora with the loss of six crew. She was consequently beached.

Vatslav V. Vorovsky, leader of the Soviet delegation at the Lausanne Conference, is assassinated in Lausanne. Immediately after the crime, the murderer Moritz Conradi, a Russian-Swiss, was arrested. The murder causes a sharp exchange of notes between Switzerland and the Soviet Union. The traders in the central market hall at Alex go on a wildcat strike, Berlin. Ship Losses: Kitanna (United Kingdom) The cargo ship foundered in the English Channel 32 nautical miles (59 km) north east by north of Alderney, Channel Isles. Kum Sang (United Kingdom) The passenger ship came ashore near Ango, Philippines (approximately 16°N 120°E). She was refloated on 22 May.
