Where is the actual link for the mod? I have looked through the SH4/5 threads and seem to have missed it.

Thanks,

The mod is fantastic.

Immersive, detailed, and the campaign plays virtually bug-free.

The Soviet boats are beautiful. I've been playing a campaign in an L Class "minelaying" boat, based out of Latvia at the beginning of Operation Barbarosa.

The Baltic Sea is not a friendly place. If racking up huge tonnage scores is your thing, this might not be the best mod for you. But if you're up for navigating through the treacherous mine fields of the Gulf of Finland to seek out Axis targets in the shallow waters of the Baltic, then this is definitely for you.

For sure, you need to start with a clean install of SH4 1.5

Using the Generic Mod Enabler, install mods in this order :

Addon Soviet Waterway (v_111)
Russian_Voice_Crew_for_SH4
RussianRadio
Path SW v_112
RealMine_SW
Soviet Medals Mod
Arctic Sea
English_translation_LITE_SW110

Start SH4 and you should be good to go.

The mod "Path SW v_112" is version 112, an update to the campaign and a few fixes to game play.

Arctic Sea is a mod that comes with the Soviet Waterway addon, changing textures to more closely resemble the arctic conditions on the Kola Peninsula and northern Norway, where my current campaign takes place. There are two other texture mods (Baltic and Black Sea) which each give the simulation a different look.

The "Soviet Medals Mod" I found here at Subsim, and adds more realism and eye candy.

The "English Translation" mod was created for version 110 of the Soviet Waterways addon, but I have yet to have any issues using it on top of version 112. Although the translation isn't perfect, it's a very good start, and at least allows those of us not fluent in Russian to understand mission orders and radio messages.

A complete translation would be very welcome indeed, although I've looked into it myself, and it's no easy task.

Hope this helps. This mod has rejuvenated my interest in SH4, and given me a chance to play a sub sim in a genre I'm not very familiar with, allowing me to also do a great deal of reading about Soviet submarine operations in WWII.

My campaign in the Baltic did not go so well (struck a mine running from two Nazi torpedo boats at the entrance to the Gulf of Riga, and L-3 was lost with all hands. My appologies to Captain 3rd Rank Petr Grishchenko, who fared much better with L-3 in real life!)

For my second crack at a campaign, I've taken command of K-2, a big cruiser submarine assigned to the Northern Fleet at Polyarnyy. The weather up there alone is worth checking out!

I've been playing this mod the past few weeks. I know some Russian, but the English translation is appreciated. Even as it is with substantial amounts translated, there's perhaps too much Russian in the game for somebody that can't at least read Cyrilic.

The north Atlantic is fun and not too hard, though there isn't alot of big tonnage there (mostly small cargo ships, rarely a tanker). Playing a Type M Malyuka "Baby" sub is really challenging, since it only has two torpedoes and the torpedoes are unguided (this was one of the most common Soviet subs of the war, that and the Type Shch (for Shchuka or "pike"). This is actually easier than learning to fire manually using uzo/TDC, since you just have to reckon the target's speed, then look it up on a torpedo table to get the lead angle, line up the ship with the target (preferably perpendicular), and fire a salvo of torpedoes, one right after the other to spread them out. Positively antique, but it works.

When I try the Baltic, my sub seems to randomly blow up. Perhaps realistic (I assume due to mines, but also perhaps due to a few nasty little torpedo boats I encounter), but potentially frustrating. My first impressions of the Baltic is that it's probably the most dangerous area I've encountered in any sub sim game. The water in some places in very shallow and there's lots of dangerous predators out to get you.
