Is there a mod that can control skills, decorations, and awards?
That is the one thing I miss the most about SH3, and I haven't been able to find a mod for SH4 that does it. Or can anyone tell me the files to change to do this?
Thanks, Dep |

Hi Deputy,
Regarding the medals, you can modify the medals received in: Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\00000000\CareerTr ack.upc An example, but first of all remember always do this in port and with a backup. You finish your first mission and you are awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class. Obviously not correct because they should have decorated you first with 2nd Class. If you open the file CareerTrack.upc you will see something like this: All you have to do is change the code: Medal codes can be found at: German: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters wolves of the pacific\Data\UPCDataGE\UPCCrewData\Medals.upc American: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters wolves of the pacific\Data\UPCData\UPCCrewData\Medals.upc |

CapnScurvy has such a mod in the download area and I belive CaptainCox also has one there. There were copyright reasons Ubi couldn't use real medals in the game. We can do what we want because we're not selling anything!
You'll still get purple hearts for things not relevant to the real medal. But the mods do improve the situation greatly. I'd rather just not pay attention to medals--just like the real sailors!

I know it probably sounds a bit strange, but I enjoy awarding medals; decorating my crew at the end of a patrol.
Who knows what effect if any happens to the crew, but that isn't important to me. Oh well..... : ) Happy Hunting!

Agree 100%. It's a shame there isn't a mod like the one in SH3 that allows you to award medals and decorations. I know there was one medal in SH3 that was supposed to be awarded to the whole crew after the completion of one cruise. I forgot the name of it. Some kind of U-Boat qualification medal. There was a mod that allowed you to award that medal to everyone as well as every other medal and award. I made sure only the guys that got wounded actually received the wound badge. And most of my deck gun and AA crews all got a lot of medals because I used them a lot.

Actually at the end of a successful cruise you generally are given a collection of medals to award to crewmen as you see fit. I thought you were concerned about the nature of the medals being somewhat authentic.

First way: For example, you have three wounded sailors on the patrol but, when finished, the game does not give you any medals for the crew. What you have to do is open the file CareerTrack.upc and add the desired medal as many times as you want on the line "CrewMembersCurrentMedalsRepository" Save the .upc archive, load the game and give the three medals to the injured sailors. Second way: Open ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc (same folder as CareerTrack). Find the sailor you want to give the medal to. You'll find something like this: Go to "Medals=" code line and add whatever you want, for example: Many more changes related to the submarine and the crew can be made in this file but I have only got to modify the names of the sailors, their special abilities (put on, remove or change) and their coefficients (guns, watch, electric, etc.), all of it marked in bold. Thank you...pepe99a
Been looking for some help with those very questions for awhile and was happy to find this.
But now, I have another "related" question... Do you know of a way to fix the assignment of names to crewmen when starting a new USN Pacific Theater career? I figured out that editing the names in the saved game UPC files works, but after that career is over with, starting a new one goes right back to assigning some of the same "funky" names. These are not at all "Normal" or "Common" US names...Stan Edgar D. Street...Guy Vernon W. Hogan...Ian Merrill P. Saunders...Irvin Chester V. Madison...Kevin Martin S. Gilmore...etc...good grief man, tell me your mother didn't like you! Anyway, I haven't found anything like those convoluted/exaggerated names in the initial UPC files...how do they get created in the first place? |

I dont know the file that generates the names of the crew when you start a new campaign but maybe it can be *\Silent Hunters wolves of the pacific\Data\UPCData\UPCCrewData\CrewMembersNames.upc. This is what is inside: You can also start a new campaign and edit the ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc file that is inside the saved game folder (names, crew statistics, etc.). Once finished, save the file (ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc) as "template". When you start another campaign, with the same submarine model and the same Turm, you just have to copy and paste the template inside the saved game folder, obviously overwriting the file. Finally, it is necessary to adjust the U-boat number and you have to edit two lines of command. This I tried sometimes with no problems or errors. Not the best solution but a solution |

Thanks pepe.
I'll do it in the ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc folder for now; seems to be a good enough solution.
I've been looking at the UPCInitial folder and think maybe that's where the names are generated at the start of a new campaign. Maybe I'll try to modify that in some way and see if it fixes the problem...prevents it in the first place, that is. Thanks again. |
