Thinking about getting Silent Hunter 1 and 2
In thinking about getting the first two Silent Hunter games. They're both pretty cheap on eBay, but they're also rare. I know I'll need DOSBox to run them. Are they worth the money? I'm rather strapped for cash after preordering IL2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad, and there's other games I'd like to get and I want to support Atlantic Warfare. So would they be worth getting me further into debt?

SH1 needs DOSBox but SH2 does not.
SH2 is so much better with the Pacific Aces mod...I think it's worth it for that. But, if you're worried about debt and managing the moolah...I'd hold off for now.

No rush to buy them, they'll still be around in the future, especially if your funds are running low at the moment.
SH2 is the one that hooked me (albeit temporarily), on a mate's laptop in 2003 (we also played Soldier of Fortune II on our LAN, my Sgt was a beast with the knife!). Fast forward seven years and I thought I'd rekindle my submariner feelings but bought SH3 thinking that was the one I'd played. I've been here ever since.

I think SH1 would be worthwhile if you can run it. I was never able to get it to run on my machine. In some ways, it is better than SH4. |

for me , the best title in sh series will always be the silent hunter 2 ( combined with the very good 'destroyer command' )
both games runs ok on my machine (win7 x64) you can have a look of sh2's gameplay here :
