Ensign Williams: Captain, I see something on the horizon. Skipper: Smoke? Ensign: No Sir, I've never seen anything like it. Skipper: [Moving to the Ensign's side of the Conn]...Point to it Son. Ensign: Port-Bow Sir...there. Skipper: Yeah I see it...My God that's a strange looking vessel! Get me the Reccy Manual Ensign. [Under his breath]Hot Damn, I'd thought I'd seen it all.

tough crowd!
my first kill: manual TDC, but map updates on so I could check out how things work. It works similar to SH3, but more limited. You can only change torp speed, depth, magnetic/contact, single tube/salvo. Your XO will give you an estimated solution, but it is a gross approximation and needs to be thoroughly reworked. You can not manually set gyro angles. They are determined by where you are aiming your scope. A yellow line shows up on the map showing the torpedo path w. time to target range. This allows to aim the torp based on target speed/course. One nice thing is that you can keep the target "locked" and still rotate the scope. I have no problem with the way it is designed, it fits in with the design that you are the skipper and not some crewman fiddling with dials.

It looks like a epic fail, so if you don't look via periscope u can't change the direction where torpedo fires??? Where's the enhaced realizm?? Iwant to be ABLE to set approx torp direction with hydrophone indication only. Ok before my anger explodes , how is speed calculation system designed? BIG thx for answers in advance. |

this is with map updates "on", the yellow line shows the path of your torpedo, the light blue area is what your scope is currently looking at. The dark blue line with the arrow is the plotted course for own sub. need some more reloads...

with map updates "off" and ships zigzagging, it will be a different ball game. I do not not know if you can carry out an underwater attack. My sound guy is only level 1, so he is not very good.

At close distance, aka 1000m even a newb soundwatch should be able to follow a merchant. But i used this way to fire torps in sh3 vs DD cruising around me. I tried to anticipate they circular path on a 5 sec basis and market crosses on my map given the hydro data . Then fired a salvo on approx future position. During the whole war 40-45 in SH3 i sunk a dozen of DD this way and saved my sub from a certain death. It's not easy, doesn't work every time but as a sign of realism i should be abl to do so. Sh3 allowed this desperate attempt, if sh5 can't, it is NOT an improvement over SH3 in realism. This is what dev promised us, fix some unrealistic methods form sh3 like speed calculation. They promised that Hardcore player will have all the setting to their disposal at 100% realism. Sh5 is just a different approach to the sub sim, thus it doesn't mean it is more realistic than sh3 was. Still you played with map notification on, i wonder how full realism difficulty leve looks like. |

VIIC '41 in fog (light fog? / pics don't do justice to fog effect, which is real nice / I still haven't found saved screenies, these are from clipboard after each exit, otherwise I'd put up more / @Bilge Rat what key combo are you using for screenshots?):

nope, tried that, but its just part of the scenery, no mention of it in the manual either. I thought it might be accessible through the XO, but no go there either.
