Wolfpack Tactics & Tips
Wolfpack Game Manual - Updated Dec 2019 with Single Player tips
. Using the Tutorial mission to practice firing torpedoes Wolfpack: TDC - Overview & Calculation Example __________________________________________________ ___ Routine dive 1. Routine dive only ordered by Captain 2. Captain orders "Prepare to dive", descends into conning tower, closes voice tube on the bridge. 3. Helmsman uses telegraph and switches from diesel to electric motors, then orders ahead half. 4. Navigator takes a depth sounding, reports depth under keel. 5. Navigator marks on chart where boat’s location is at the start of the dive. 6. Captain closes conning tower hatch, says “Conning tower hatch is closed" 7. Dive Officer sets dive planes, tells Captain “Ready to dive” 8. Captain orders “Flood” 9. Helmsman opens the forward MBT #4 vent valves allowing seawater in the main ballast tanks. 10. Navigator opens the aft MBT #2 vent valves allowing seawater in the main ballast tanks. 11. Captain sets depth with order “Go to depth, xx meters” 12. The boat is dived at a down angle of 5-8°. In so doing, the ordered depth is initially overshot by about 2-5 meters, and the ordered depth is approached from below by the Dive Officer's operation of the dive planes. 13. After the report of Dive Officer: "Boat is at xx meters", the order always follows, Captain: "Close vents". 14. Helmsman and Navigator closes MBT vent valves. 15. Navigator reports any leaks or problems, “No leaks detected, Herr Kaleun”. 16. Captain orders new speed, course as necessary. If at periscope depth, the slowest speed should be selected. 17. Helsman reports battery status, “Both batteries at xxxx amps, Herr Kaleun”. 18. Sonar reports any contacts. Last edited by Onkel Neal; 07-14-22 at 03:41 PM. |

Crash dive
1. Order: "Alarm!" Alarm bell activated by Chief. 2. Helmsman switches from diesel to electric motors, then orders ahead flank. 3. Captain closes voice tube on the bridge, descends into conning tower. 4. Navigator takes a depth sounding, reports depth under keel. 5. Navigator marks on chart where boat’s location is at the start of the dive. 6. Captain closes conning tower hatch, says “Conning tower hatch is closed" 7. Helmsman silences alarm bell. 8. Dive Officer sets dive planes to forward hard down. 9. Captain orders “Flood” 10. Helmsman opens the forward MBT #4 vent valves allowing seawater in the main ballast tanks. 11. Navigator opens the aft MBT #2 vent valves allowing seawater in the main ballast tanks. 12. Captain opens the Negative vent valve allowing seawater in the negative tank. 13. Captain sets depth with order “Go to depth, xx meters.” (At the front usually to 80 meters) 14. Once the down angle indicator indicates the boat has a down angle, hold: 8 to 15° 15. Helmsman closes vent valve for negative tank and blows tank to control dive before desired depth is reached. After execution of the order "Flood" and the boat has a noticeable descending tendency, the negative buoyancy tanks are expressed (blown by compressed air), by the Helmsman, who will call out, “Express”. It is critical that the Helmsman perform the crash dive operation competently, otherwise the boat could dive out of control, below safe depth, or with a dangerous down angle. 16. The ordered depth is achieved by the Dive Officer’s operation of the dive planes. 17. After the report of Dive Officer's: "Boat is at xx meters", the order always follows, Captain: "Close vents". 18. Helmsman and Navigator closes MBT vents valves. 19. Navigator reports any leaks or problems, “No leaks detected, Herr Kaleun”. 20. Navigator checks compressed air level and reports, “Compressed air at xx millibar, Herr Kaleun”. 21. Captain orders new speed, course as necessary. 22. Helmsman reports battery status, “Both batteries at xxxx amps, Herr Kaleun”. Sonar reports any contacts. |

Surfacing
1. Captain will order a sonar sweep for nearby vessels. 2. Sonar reports any contacts held and strength. 3. After the Captain has satisfied himself by visual sweep and sound bearings that the boat can surface, he gives the order: "Prepare to surface" 4. Helmsman reports “Vents closed” 5. Captain: “Surface” 6. To surface, the boat goes to Ahead Full because, if immediate diving is required (aircraft alarm), high speed is absolutely necessary. The boat is angled stern down and driven up dynamically with diving planes "Forward hard up", "Aft up 5-10". 7. Dive Officer to Captain: "Boat rises". 8. At 20m Dive Officer will open the high pressure air valve to blow the main ballast tanks, with the report, “Blowing main ballast tanks”. 9. Dive Officer to Captain: "13 meters, 12 meters…." meter by meter. 10. Dive Officer to Captain: "Conning tower hatch free", order concluded at 7.5 meters. 11. Helmsman closes compressed high pressure air valve and Dive Officer sets planes to neutral. 12. Captain will set the bridge watch (usually Captain and Navigator). 13. Captain ascends the bridge ladder, opens hatch and says "Conning tower hatch open". 14. Navigator marks position of surfacing on chart. 15. Captain opens bridge voice tube. 16. As necessary, Captain may order, “Switch to diesels” and set new course and speed. 17. Sonar reports any radio traffic or messages received. 18. Dive Officer refills compressed air. 19. Dive Officer pumps down bilge. Last edited by Onkel Neal; 12-15-22 at 05:04 PM. |

Wolfpack Tactics & Tips
Hi All,
I’ve made tables for the method I use in my Comprehensive tutorial in my sig (computing target speed based on his bearing change over one minute). I’ve put a link to it in my sig. I used a self made whiz wheel in my tutorial but wanted to make the tables for ease of use So people could print them off and keep them at their desk. Instructions are in the document. Tutorial is written using SH3 but of course the methods work for Wolfpack as well.

Quick tip for playing solo but leaving the door open for any other players to join your battle in their own U-boat.
Select the Worldwide option and then select New Lobby | | | Lobby settings "Visible to Everyone" and no password. This way other captains are able to see your battle and join... | | | Then choose your boat and take the Captain role, and enter a password here. This will prevent any other player from joining you in your boat. Using the bots, you will be able to fight your submarine like a pro. | | | If any captains decide to join your battle, they will do so in their own sub, and not interfere with the operation of your sub. You will see a note when another player joins your battle but you will only be able to communicate with him (or them if 3 guys join your battle) through the u-boat radio interface, which gives the whole experience a touch of mystery and intrigue. You're fighting the convoy, and there are other u-boats in your wolfpack, giving the escorts fits. You may hear their torpedoes when they hit! | | | The good thing about this version of the game, if players join and leave, it really doesn't have much of an effect on you. .

Version 0.19 - Bots
Hello everyone!
We are now releasing the bot features we've been working on the past month. The addition of bots will make the game more single player friendly by allowing you to control the U-boat from a dashboard interface. Bots are activated on a per server basis in the lobby menu. To access the bot interface in game, click the mouse wheel, or press 1, 2, or 3 keys for individual bots. Bots play crew members that do not have a player. If a player logs in, the corresponding bot is deactivated. There is no captain bot. Single Player tutorial Use the helmsman interface 1 key to set the speed, heading and rudder angle. The helmsman bot will notify you if the battery level is low. Helmsman Bot will not switch to Diesels upon surfacing. The torpedo data computer may be controlled via the helmsman interface. The hydrophone and the radio are available in the radio man interface 2 key. The radio man bot will notify you of radio messages as well as hydrophone contacts. The dive officer interface 3 key allows you to set the U-boats depth by entering a desired value. Use the automated quick commands for diving, surfacing, emergency dive and for maintaining periscope depth. The dive officer bot will notify you if the compressed air supply is low. You must manage the compressed air. The Dive bot will use the negative tank if you order a crash dive using the right side icon. If you are already submerged and you order crash dive using the icon, the negative tank is not used. Last edited by Onkel Neal; 02-20-23 at 05:19 PM. |

Selecting the Close Encounter option will place your starting position in a random spot where the convoy is coming towards you, give or take 90 degrees. Essentially, check this and you are not forced to perform a lengthy end around run to get in front of the convoy. Should you wish to start a mission with a chance of needing to do an end around, leave this unchecked.
. --- When using the hydrophone interface, you can click on the speaker icon to "put the headphones on", and click again to "take them off". | | When a U-boat sends a radio message, it will be received by any U-boats surfaced or above 12m. A U-boat below 12m will not get the message, and it is not "saved" for them when they surface; they missed the message. |
