Default Silent Hunter 1 [ commanders edition ]

Hi and ✌
I know this is sh3, but i could not find a forum for Silent Hunter 1

How do you get dosbox to recognize D:\ drive dvd-cd-rom drive???
I got Silent Hunter [ Commanders edition ]
I am a little familiar with DOS from the past ''Aces of the Deep' ETC.

I think i can get this game to run, being Silent Service will run

Ms-Dos is 64 bit

i think i can get 32bit with DosBox.

C:\ is my main drive for files
D:\ is cd-rom drive

Anyone ??? thank

Ahh, but you just need to use the Classic thread... lol - Not easy to see though:

Classic SubSims

What you'll need to do is copy the game files to your hard drive, as scott_c2911 did in this thread

SH1 is working!

The original Silent Hunter game, just like AOTD, is just as good today as it was then, and for me, is well worth the effort to get it going.

Also, be sure and check-out the Legacy Downloads pages for anything Silent Hunter (1) that piques your interest. Some of the links are "dead", but give a shout via PM for any you cannot find. I do have most of those on my old Win98 machine...

There are certainly more elegant methods but here's what I have done:

Copy the contents of the SH1 CD into a new folder named D inside the root SH1 folder.

When starting the game, open Dosbox:
Type: mount c c:\ path to SH1 root directory <ENTER>
Type: mount d c:\path to SH1 root directory\D -t cdrom <ENTER> This should give a message that you now have limited CD ROM support.
Type: c: <ENTER> to change to the SH1 directory from the Dosbox Z drive.
Type: sh to start Silent Hunter

You can probably create a batch file to do all of this but I cannot be bothered and lack the skills anyway.

Good Hunting:

You're very welcome. This also works for other games which might require a CD to run properly in Dosbox.
