Old SHIII player - having trouble downloading from site?

Hey,

Im an old player of Silent Hunter III and ive played a little Dangerous waters and Janes fleet command (if that fits in here).

Recently ive been feeling like playing silent hunter again. I tried to get my old copy of SHIII going but it wouldnt work with my windows 7. Apparently a common issue. No big deal i thought, ill try out SH4 instead.

Ive enjoyed the game so far, i even managed to sink a fleet carrier on my second patrol (got lucky really, a taskforce was heading straight form my position so all i had to do was get myself lined up and wait). Problem is constant air patrols are really annoying me. I know theres already been a lot of debate about this from looking into it so far but personally constant streams of aircraft heading towards me no matter where i am doesnt feel realistic. Im trying to downloads Websters Better Air Patrols but im having problems.

The filefront link doesnt seem to show that mod unless im missing something and subsim will not allow me as i do not have permissions due to not activating my account (which i have done) and other possible reasons like hitting download limits etc.

Can anyone help me out? Is there a problem with my activation that could be sorted or perhaps another mirror.

Anyway, hope i can get back into the game with the help of this mod otherwise im probably going to go back to 3 which is a shame! I just cant take anymore days spent diving to avoid plane after plane.

Also tips for a semi experienced player?

Thanks!

I can't see the mod from the Filefront link, although all others appear to be viewable.

Try this link and failing that send Webster a PM

I think I know the problem.
1. Are you using JSGME to install it? if not, do this:

Here is how to install JSGME.
1. Download JSGME from the link in my sig

2. Unzip JSGME to your main Silent Hunter 4 folder...in WINXP it is ...Program Files/Ubisoft/SilentHunter4

3. Run JSGME.exe that was placed in that folder.

4. JSGME will start and a screen will display.

5. IMPORTANT: Now close JSGME. This sets up the proper location for the MODs you want to use.

6. JSGME is now properly installed.

Now for your MODs that work with JSGME....

1. Download the MOD zip file (see Subsim.com and Mod Workshop Room-you will need to register at Subsim).

2. Unzip your selected mod to the MOD folder that JSGME set up in the main directory.....
WINXP it is....ProgramFiles/Ubisoft/SilentHunter4/MOD folder.

3. Start JSGME....a new screen will open.

4. On the left side of the JSGME screen will be the list of MODs you have available.

5. Move the MOD you want to the right side of the JSGME screen. JSGME will install it.

6. Close JSGME

7. Start Silent Hunter 4 and your selected MODs will be available.

JSGME backs-up your original installation. If you don't like a mod then simply move the MOD back to the left side of the screen and JSGME will uninstall it AND put SH4 back to it's original configuration.
2. You might not be permitted to for a certain reason.
3. You left and just came back to subsim. In that case, post and wait 24 hours.
4. I dont know.

You do realize that the version in your sig is old? The latest (and last) version can be found here.

Thanks for the help guys.

CaptainRamius, the JSGME advice will be very helpful land I'll be using it soon.

But the problem is I can't get hold of the mods in the first place as subsim won't let me!

It turns out I think it's due to the current fundraising effort. Downloads to non contributing members are no longer allowed.

I think I'll need to pm Webster and see if he has another mirror otherwise my plans to return to Silent Hunter will need to be put on hold.

Anyway thanks again. Hope to have some good patrols to discuss soon.
