Default Escorts too easy?

I am playing with RFB + RSRDC + OM; currently playing an American campaign, the year is Nov 42

Most of my targets have been lone merchants, however, the 2 or 3 times that I meet with escorts, it was easy, I mean really easy to simply evade escorts by getting the sub below 250 feet.
I was even capable of just getting back to PD after reloading and then move at flank speed and attack more ships and crash dive again after... that with escorts searching for me

Are escorts getting better in 1943/ 1944 ?

should I install TMO instead of RFB?

Default Try TMO standing alone

TMO may be better. I have been getting my ass kicked. In RFB/RSRD I found that a Balao at 400 feet was dodging destroyers. TMO instructions provide a way to ratchet up the destroyers hunting capabilities I believe.

Does anybody knows if it is possible to have more than one SHIV install?
if so, is it as easy as just to install with another name?

I would like to have 3 independent installs:
OM+OMEGU
RFB+RSRDC
TMO+RSRDC
hard drive is not an issue,

Default re

TMO's DD's are tough enough, esp from 43 to the end of the war, without modifications. The one exception is in heavy seas, but thats reality and even then they may be able to get you. From 41-42 in TMO I run the mini-mod "harder escorts" that Ducimus cooked up for 1.7, it makes the DD's tougher in early war but still a difference but plenty of fun and challenge. That's why I play TMO, the DD's in other mods are just too easy for me to get away from.

But my understanding was that stock campaigns without RSRDC, are not as historically accurate. I would prefer to keep a little less challenging DE for better campaigns

TMO/RSD is plenty bloodthirsty. Just make sure you use the version of RSRD that's produced for TMO.

Multi SH4 is your friend.

It says it's a BETA, but I've been using it 2 years no problems.
There's a readme in the download

Default I have two SH4

I am not a computer genius. I have one version under my log in name. I have a second, which I never used, under my son's log in name.

thanks a lot, I followed Sergei's suggestion and I now have a clean vanilla install + TMO 1.8 beta, which will be followed soon by OM

How is the campaign in 1.8? that is compared to RSRDC

Tomorrow, I will to start a new career, and I am undecided between 1.7+RSRDC or 1.8 (which has to be stand alone as per the readme)

thanks

You can run RSRD with the beta. He basically is only taking feedback if you're running 1.8 only.

I know several including Bubble that feels RSRD changes the sensors in TMO. Lurker says no, but several say they see a change. I played TMO alone for a few patrols and didn't notice any changes but hardly enough time....

Be nice to know for sure if RSRD does indeed change any of the sensors, visuals, ect..in TMO

Couldn't be easier. I have three installs of SH4 and four of SH3. With the massive hard drives available now, not having several installs and playing several versions of these games results in missing a lot of wonderful mods. I think it keeps the games interesting, and allows you to mess around with an install without worry.
By all means, get Multi-Install.
