Lock up issues, anyone ever had this?
SO, Im having issues with my PC, in games it at times will lock up for awhile, and not work, till i either jam Ctrl Alt Delete enough/wait it out.
Happens in game, or in desktop, usual with firefox/steam. Its now software, as ive reformatted my PC. My CPU/graphics card run at good temps, so thats not the issue, though other things in there, i dont know.

Sometimes the culprit can be your sound card, though you never mentioned odd sound noises before the lockups so most likely not the problem. My lockups were cause by the sound card after trying different drivers, windows default driver, switching PCI slots & still getting lockups I then took the card out and enabled the onboard sound, problem solved. Though I wouldn't say I solved the problem more I got rid of the problem by removing the card. lol

OK, so, new news
Ive ran some stress tests, to see if i can find the problem. Ran a stress test on ram/CPU, for 2 hours, nothing failed. Ran a stress test (Furmark) on my GPU for 5 mins, only lagged in the beginning abit, but other than that fine. Ram a memory test, found no errors PSU is brand new, and is more than what i need Windows was reformatted, and installed afiew weeks ago to see if that was the issue, no cigar. There are no heating issues i can see. GPU/CPU run at good temps. And im running out of ideas (figured id list everything ive done out) Guess ill try the ram... As i noticed i have 2 sets in there, a PNY set, and a Samsung set. maybe one of them failed.

I don't believe its software, as i cleared the hard drive of everything, and did a complete new install of windows with nothing else.
still couldnt hurt though.

Mkay, so to recap:
Take out all the ram and try 1 pair. Try the other pair. Swap to old graphics card. Put the RAM in the matching color slots for dual-channel. Likely slot 0+2 and 1+3. (only use one of those since you're working with 2 modules)

Ok, so. I have replaced the Motherboard, cpu, and ram. It happens VERY rarely now, but still is there in some games.
The GPU is fine, and the PSU is fine. So the only thing that could be the issue still is the HD, or something with software.

You've darn near built a new computer. Could there be a corrupted file when you play the game that everything locks up.
Was grasping at straws. . Scrolled down and reread your first post slowly and closely and saw the"Desktop part" also. So there went my lame brain game theory which I knew was stupid after I typed it. Typeing with one hand I'm to tired to delete it Sorry. Since my one hand is tired out I'll give it a rest an read ALL your guys posts slowly and see if I see a clue. Regards FIREWALL |

When you CAD the pc on a hang, check the performance. Is ram use higher than expected? Swap file usage abnormal? Any process sucking up CPU time (like AV)? Reads or Writes to the hard drive pending/failing?
Try setting your swap file manuall to 2x your installed ram. Or move it to another partion temporarily. Often, Windows tries to dynamically adjust it and sometimes hoses the whole thing. Also - a full scan (including surface check) of the HD may be in order.

Although the video card is new do you have it over clocked? have you got an old one to try, I have had new ones die within a few months of purchase.
