WIN 10
Thinking about returning to SH3 with the GWX Mod once again. Does SH3 run under WIN 10?

I installed my SH3 directly on the c:\ drive i.e. (c:\Silent Hunter III), not to any Win folders from the disk. That's my step by step. Are you running any mods? What PC setup do you have?

It does not have to be c:\, just using it as an example.
Not sure what could be wrong. You should have the SH3.exe set up for compatibility for Windows 7, or XP and as Administrator. It should work out of the box in Win 11 once installed. Sorry, I am not sure what is wrong with your installation.

After many years I installed SH3 this morning with GWX. The old girl is still first rate! I've been playing all morning. I forgot how much I love this title.
Anyway, I installed to F:\Games\SH3 and it runs fine, so I don't think it matters where you put it. I use SH3 Commander, I don't know if that makes any difference. Did you remember to delete old SH3 files in My Documents before first launch? |

I always have to mess with the Properties on the SH3.exe, and I use this image a lot:
That's in an SH4 install in Win11, but the same applies for SH3 and Win10, but you might have to change the Compatibility mode to WinXP. The top window is from hitting the "Change high DPI settings" button, but you probably won't have to use the top tick box and settings, only the lower... unless of course, you have a high DPI screen, and use Windows "Scaling" to increase your icons and text size... This is in addition to what Oubaas says about the Save folder... I would also advise not installing the game in a Program Files folder, because you are almost assuredly going to want to mod the game... |

From the Grey Wolves GWX Support web page:
"You must install GWX3 GOLD over a CLEAN, UNMODIFIED installation of Silent Hunter 3 with the latest patch (1.4b) installed. The Grey Wolves GWX Support Page I believe this is the problem. I hope this helps. |
