Default Math Formula for range

Ahoy Captains,

Does anyone know the formula to calculate range when viewing though either periscope or though the TBT?

Thanks for your help,

LB

no.....no..... little-green-line-thingies is still too technical.

LMAO

Yea, those little green and black thingies in periscope! Watch a video on youtube by SH3 Manual ranging by Bstanko6. Couldn't understand what he said it was and it was in meters. He said was in the manual. I looked in the SH4 manual that came my disk. And I couldn't make heads or tails on the print, even after using a magnifying glass. I thought someone might use another way to estimate range in yards.

OK

Watched and read the notes below the video. The formula is: Mast height/tickX marks( green thingies) X 0.22(if using 6x power scope and .4 for a 12x)=Range, (in meters). Meters can be covert into meters multiplied by 3.28. What is the magnifying power of periscope and TBT in FotRSU v.1.8?

OK, no more math today, my head's spinning as I've had too many.

Unless a mod has changed it, for the scopes, the small marks are 1°, the large ones 4°.

So, at low magnification:
Range in yards = mast height in feet / 3 / tan (# of small marks)

At high magnification, multiply the answer by 4.

For the TBT, the small marks are 0.2°, so:
Range in yards = mast height in feet / 3 / tan (# of small marks * 0.2)

Thank you derstosstrupp, I will try these next time I'm in the game.
