Default Impact vs Magnetic in OM

I have a feeling that impact torpedoes are more powerful in game to magnetic in OM + OMEGU. Anyone else finding this?
Impact seems to give instant kills while magnetic either sinks slowly or not at all.

This was the case for all navies during WWII. Magnetic mines were often faulty or "duds" as they were called. When the Swordfish planes sent to attack the Bismarck but accidently attacked the Sheffield they used magnetic torpedoes. All but one exploded on contact with the sea. Also impact torpedoes will do more damage cause they hit the hull and explode instead of exploding near a magnetic "anamoly."

I had forgotten that incident. Thanks for reminding me.

If that were true there would be no magnetic torpedoes at all. The idea is to have it go off under the keel, thus breaking the ship's back and sinking it with one shot. In this case the magnetic torpedo does much more damage. Of course this depends on it working properly, which they often did not.

Definately detonating when they're supposed too. I often follow with external... A bit depressing seeing the torp detonate centimeters under MOT then watching the target sail away unharmed, when a similar situation with contact gives fireworks and quick kills.

Im really wondering if Im just imagining it! Haven't done any tests in controlled situations.

First of all, only use electric torpedoes, never use steam. Even at close ranges, the ships will see them and avoid them.

As for the detonators:

After 1943, use only magnetic, they rule. Set their depth to exactly the draft value of your target (from the recognition manual). Why are they better than impact detonators?
1. the impact angle doesn't matter anymore
2. destroyers (combat ships in general) have a small draft, impact torpedoes would just bounce of the rounded underside.
3. better damage, you can sink a 10000 ton merchant with just one (max two).

Before 1943, NEVER use magnetic detonators, EXCEPT if:
1. the target is within 1000m (to rephrase, the torpedo should not travel more than 1000m)

AND...........

2. the target is a destroyer (see above explanation)
3. the impact angle is far from 90 degrees (lower than 60 or higher than 120)
