Age of Sail series ( TalonSoft, Akella)
Just for fun I returned to some old favorites. This series of games are tactical naval wargames that remind me of my early years with miniatures and boardgames.
Age of Sail (AOS)(1996,Talonsoft) Age of Sail II (AOSII, 2001, Akella) ( RTS) Age of Sail II: Privateers Bounty (AOS II:PB) (2002, Akella)(RTS) IMHO Age of Sail II: Privateers Bounty is the better game in the series. It should have been named AOS III to avoid name confusion. It has improved AI, enhanced ship damage models, a better graphics engine, a fine-tuned interface, overall better stability, more weather effects including wind changes, and includes an editor. With the AOSII:PB editor you can create scenario and campaigns , but use of the editor is tricky and poorly documented. BTW you can port and switched out the historic campaigns (e.g. Black Sea, Nelson, 1812 etc ) from AOSII to play in AOSII:PB and take advantage of improvements. You can edit Individual Ship data, weather, etc , and probably the most important factor in AOSII: PB -crew ratings.. |
